Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative and growing Autism Intensive Support Team within NSFT. We are seeking to recruit two full time (1.0 WTE) band 7 Clinical Psychologists,. These posts are new roles within the new Autism Intensive Support Service (AIS), which is a small resource offering intensive support to autistic adults (18 and above) presenting in our urgent and emergency mental health care pathways. These roles will be hosted by the AIS Team currently based at the Weavers Centre, alongside the central Crisis team, at Hellesdon Hospital.



Post holders will be required to work a designated area across Norfolk and Waveney. This will include in reach work to inpatient settings and outreach to community teams with the aim of reducing the need for autistic service users to access urgent and emergency care pathways (which are often not therapeutic environments for this client group) and to support successful transitions between inpatient and community settings, when this has been unavoidable.



These post holders will work with and be supervised by an 8c Consultant Clinical Psychologist and work alongside a Clinical Nurse Specialist, DSR nurse and Assistant Psychologist in the AIS team. The team is likely to grow further, with additional new MDT posts in the near future. The intensive support resource will work with those service users with comorbid autism and mental health difficulties in a formulation-led and recovery-oriented way for up to a year.

Main duties of the job

These posts will involve direct work with service users and their carers and families, and also - where appropriate - future opportunities for supervision of the other roles in this expanding specialist team. You will provide a key role in working with the other providers in the system to create a formulation-led care package to support the service user on discharge from this intensive support offer. The postholders will support the wider CRHT in their work with people with autism on a consultation basis and take a proactive approach to supporting community teams with providing mental health treatment in an autism friendly way.



There will be significant opportunities for contributing to data analysis and reporting both within NSFT and to our ICB colleagues. There will also be CPD and formal training opportunities within the AIS team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

There will be the opportunities to:


Contribute to shaping the AIS pathway and the model in order to better support autistic people. Contribute to writing and presenting reports on data collection both within and outside NSFT, as needed. Support wider services via the provision of training, consultation and supervision forums.

The postholder would be expected to have an interest in and/or specialist skills, knowledge, or experience in working with autistic people and in providing therapeutic interventions that are autism friendly. They will also bring specialist knowledge about autism to the service and wider system. Experience or qualification in diagnosing autism would be advantageous but not essential.



We would support the successful candidates in accessing relevant training courses. Joint working with our key system partners for LD, Autism and Mental Health will be key to this role.



Experience of working in more than one clinical setting, and of working across the provider system would be highly advantageous.

Essential criteria

Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Desirable criteria

Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapies) #

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems Experience of supervision and teaching

Desirable criteria

Experience of representing psychology within MDT setting (clinical and organisational contexts) Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post #
