Clinical Psychologist - Addiction, Trauma & Dual Diagnosis

With 23 inpatient beds, a growing outpatient service, and an experienced multidisciplinary team, we are entering an exciting phase of service development with a strong focus on trauma-informed, integrated care.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Clinical Psychologist with expertise in addiction, trauma, and dual diagnosis to join our expanding inpatient service. This is a key role in developing and delivering psychologically informed treatment for individuals presenting with complex mental health needs, including substance use disorders, trauma histories, personality difficulties, emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and co-occurring mood disorders.

The Role

You will play a central role in shaping and delivering trauma-informed psychological care, with particular emphasis on integrated treatment for co-occurring substance use and mental health difficulties.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of evidence-based psychological programmes for patients with addiction and dual diagnosis presentations. Delivering individual and group therapy informed by: Trauma-focused approaches Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Seeking Safety (an evidence-based, present-focused model widely used in the UK for people with PTSD and substance misuse) Other NICE-aligned interventions for mood disorders and substance use. Providing psychological formulation to support holistic, multidisciplinary treatment planning. Working collaboratively with psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, and recovery staff to ensure care is integrated, consistent, and trauma-informed. Offering consultation, supervision, and training to the MDT to strengthen psychologically informed practice across the service. Contributing to service development, outcome monitoring, and clinical governance. Maintaining high standards of clinical documentation and ethical practice in line with HCPC requirements.

Essential Criteria

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) recognised by the HCPC. HCPC registration as a Clinical Psychologist. Significant experience working with trauma and substance use disorders, including dual diagnosis. Experience delivering structured, evidence-based psychological interventions. Strong formulation skills and the ability to integrate psychological thinking into multidisciplinary care. Excellent communication skills, emotional resilience, and a collaborative approach.
Desirable

Training and experience in DBT. Experience using Seeking Safety or similar trauma-informed, integrated models for addiction and PTSD. Experience coordinating or contributing to group programmes. Experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including autistic adults. Supervision or teaching experience within an MDT.
