About the role
------------------
Imperial College London is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Fellow to contribute to the Imperial Computational EEG (ICE) project - an ambitious research programme at Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT). The project aims to transform the clinical use of electroencephalography (EEG) by developing and validating machine learning (ML) approaches for automated interpretation of clinical EEG recordings. The focus is on improving the detection and grading of encephalopathy linked to delirium and the detection of seizure activity in hospitalised patients.
You will work in the group of academic neurologist and computer scientist Dr Gregory Scott, with a team of collaborators having expertise in translational neuroscience, neurology, neurophysiology, signal processing, and machine learning.
As a Clinical Research Fellow, you will be medically qualified with a full GMC registration.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
You will be central to the development of a novel large-scale (i.e., 1,000 s of patients) EEG-clinical dataset. You will carry out pseudonymisation, curation, and secure transfer of routinely collected clinical data from ICHT, in the form of EEG recordings and allied clinical data retrieved from the electronic health records (EHR) system. There will be a strong emphasis on data entry, parsing, curation, transfer, and research governance. Whilst experience with EEG methods and data analysis skills are desirable, the aim is to enable high-impact research through the creation of a large, structured, and well-curated dataset with a focus on high-quality allied clinical data.
You will be expected to collaborate closely with researchers and clinicians across Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. You will also actively participate more broadly in the research programme of the group.
What we are looking for
---------------------------
Medically qualified (MBBS or equivalent) and full GMC registration
Experience of working with hospitalised patients and healthcare professionals
Experience with using electronic health records (EHR) systems
Experience of clinical data entry and quality control
Good knowledge of human research ethical principles and methods including Good Clinical Practice
Excellent attention to detail and ability to navigate, parse, and curate large volumes of heterogenous clinical data
Willingness to work as part of a team, to be open-minded and cooperative
Ability to organise your own work with minimal supervision
A creative approach to problem-solving; a "doer"
What we can offer you
-------------------------
An exciting opportunity to contribute to research with real-world clinical impact
Opportunities for close collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team across Imperial College London and ICHT - a tertiary neurosciences centre
Opportunities, supervision, and guidance to develop your skills and experience in neurology, neurophysiology, neuroscience, and data science, to build your research output, and to apply for further research opportunities.
Join a highly multi-disciplinary lab and a world-leading institution
Be part of the Care Research & Technology Centre, part of the UK Dementia Research Institute
Progress your clinical academic career with support from academic neurologist Dr Scott, in a department with an excellent track record of supporting clinical academics, in an institution with dedicated support for clinical fellows.
