What you would be doing

You will lead and contribute to cutting-edge research in paediatric critical care, focusing on developing a breath test for bacterial lower respiratory tract infections in ventilated children. You will collect and manage breath samples, collaborate closely with laboratory and bioinformatics teams, and assist with data analysis to develop diagnostic models.
You will take initiative in planning and conducting your research, ensuring data accuracy and reliability while presenting your findings at meetings and contributing to publications. You will also support and supervise other clinicians involved in research, participate in relevant workshops and conferences, and help build research collaborations both within Imperial College and externally.
In addition to your research duties, you will engage in teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate students, helping to shape the next generation of clinicians and researchers. Throughout your fellowship, you will have access to extensive training and development opportunities to expand your skills and advance your career.
What we are looking for

A qualified clinician with a degree in medicine and full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
Experience in paediatric critical care or related clinical areas, with a strong interest in research.
Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct, and analyse clinical research independently.
Proficiency or willingness to develop skills in bioinformatics, data analysis, and machine learning.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present research findings clearly.
Strong attention to detail, organisation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
A collaborative team player who is open-minded, proactive, and adaptable in a multidisciplinary environment.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of research integrity and ethics.

This is an 0.8 FTE fixed-term position for 24 months, with the potential for annual extension based on funding and project needs based at St Mary's Hospital Campus.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
The role is based within the Department of Surgery & Cancer, Division of Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care, at Imperial College London's St Mary's Hospital Campus. You will be joining a multidisciplinary team committed to advancing paediatric critical care research through innovative clinical and translational projects.
