Please note, we would also consider part time hours for this position.

Full time working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm.

  • The Clinical Scientist is responsible for remaining a fully registered consultant clinical scientist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical Scientist with inclusion on the Higher Specialist Scientist Register held by the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) and hold FRCPath or equivalent as appropriate.
  • Participate in annual competency assessments to provide assurance of clinical competence and delivery of a safe and effective clinical service.
  • Plan and direct research and development, where appropriate
  • Provide input into the selection of equipment, methods, and reagents appropriate to the needs of customers and ensure that test methodologies can provide the quality of results required for patient care.
  • Assures that test methods are validated against established acceptance criteria.
  • Assures that verification procedures are adequate to determine the accuracy and reliability of test methods.
  • Provide assurance that only suitable specimens are analysed, and rejection criteria are defined.
  • Assures that test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly.
  • Line management and other responsibilities for laboratory staff including Biomedical Scientists, assuring competence of staff performing tasks that affect patient results
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving the quality of the laboratory services, with implementation of a quality management system including quality plan, quality standards, quality manual with policies and procedures.
  • Participates in audits, surveys, inspections, and incident investigation.
  • Ensure EQA samples are tested in the same manner as patients\xe2\x80\x99 specimens.
  • Ensure paperwork is completed accurately and results submission deadlines are met.
  • Assess potential clinical impact on patient care and outcome and liaise with laboratory customers where indicated.
  • Ensure an effective system of clinical governance is in place including.
  • Maintaining UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189:2012 and supporting accreditation to ISO 15189: 2022 following a period of transition.
Qualifications
  • HCPC registered clinical scientist with FRCPath or equivalent with inclusion on the Higher Specialist Scientist Register (HSSR) held by the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS)
  • Knowledge and experience of Biochemistry
  • Knowledge of clinical governance of medical laboratories including clinical audit and quality control.
  • Proven experience within a comprehensive clinical service including advice regarding appropriate specimens, involvement in specimen analysis, validation, interpretation of results and liaison with customers, appropriate involvement in development of policies and SOPs relevant to consultant duties and participation in clinical governance
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in pathology and support staff.
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice
  • Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
  • Self-motivated, proactive, innovative
  • Able to prioritise work and cope with change and uncertainty.
