We are looking for a Clinical Scientist or Engineer to join our team in an exciting new role working across both the Electronics Laboratory Service and the Northern Gait Analysis Service. We encourage applicants from other engineering or clinical fields who have extensive technical skills and a keen interest in digital technology. We welcome enthusiastic and innovative people with a patient-centred approach to apply for this varied and rewarding role.The successful applicant will be part of two small teams: the Electronics Laboratory Service designs, manufactures, and tests various electro-mechanical devices (including medical devices), and the Northern Gait Analysis Service assesses children and adults who have various complex neurological and medical conditions which affect their gait. The role will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and will require travel to sites across the Trust.We can provide training in areas where development is needed and we welcome applications for flexible or part-time working. NO AGENCIES PLEASEMain duties of the jobNorthern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering provides a range of specialist clinical measurement and scientific services to the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other NHS Trusts and has an active programme of medical device development and assessment. The department focuses on the needs of patients in the trust and the NHS by delivering high quality services combined with an academic approach and a strong commercial awareness.The successful applicant will be educated to post-graduate degree at master's level or have an equivalent level of specialist knowledge and registered as a clinical scientist or working towards registration. Whilst experience in the field is desirable, applicants from other clinical, scientific or engineering disciplines with transferable skills are welcome.The post holder will:

• Design, manufacture and test electronic circuits
• Design and test software and embedded firmware
• Design, manufacture and test electro-mechanical assemblies and devices
• Prepare engineering drawings and technical and compliance documentation
• Collect and analyse patient data from gait assessments
• Prepare technical reports of gait assessments
• Discuss patients in multidisciplinary team meetings
• Supervise and assess Scientist Training Programme trainees
• Contribute lectures to Newcastle University's MSc Clinical Science programme
