Job Description

Hull York Medical School (HYMS) is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Registered Nurse-Adult, to join their well-established Clinical Skills Educators team.



The position involves working in a fast-paced environment, delivering clinical skills teaching and assessing medical students under the guidance of the Lead Clinical Skills Educator.



This post is based in the HYMS Building, Postgraduate Centre, Scarborough Hospital where much of the teaching and assessment takes place. However, there will also be opportunities to work with the HYMS clinical skills team at York Hospital, offering a variety of settings for the successful candidate to contribute to the education and development of future medical professionals.



Candidates should have at least four years of post-registration experience in an acute clinical setting, and a recognised teaching qualification or equivalent experience. Proficiency in basic clinical procedures, including venepuncture, peripheral venous cannulation, and urethral catheterisation, is essential. A strong interest in teaching clinical skills and clinical simulation training is also imperative.



While proven experience in teaching clinical skills is preferable, the role is open to those who have a passion for education and professional development in this area.



To succeed in this role, candidates will need excellent communication skills, be highly organised, flexible, and creative in their approach to education.



To work within the clinical skills facilities to develop, implement and deliver teaching of clinical skills programmes to undergraduate medical students, with a primary responsibility for supporting HYMS students.

To support students and tutors within clinical areas, liaising with clinical tutors, junior doctors and other health care professionals in the identification of patients suitable to use as the key resource for HYMS teaching.

To supervise students clinical skills and assess competency through continual assessment of patients care requirements, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care across the Trust.

To work with other Clinical Skills Tutors across the HYMS sites to develop a strategic approach to the teaching and assessing of Clinical Skills, including developing opportunities for multi-disciplinary training where appropriate.

To work across organisational and professional boundaries and develop multi-professional clinically based teaching and assessment processes.
