Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Brain Injury Team, Band 7 (32 hours a week)



We are looking for an experienced, dynamic OT with highly developed specialist knowledge and skills in Acquired Brain Injury.



The post will take the lead in overseeing OT within the Glos Brain Injury Service (alongside another band 7 OT who leads for our local step-down brain injury unit).



You must have excellent communication skills and experience and skills in training and developing other staff. You must also enjoy embracing the challenges of this complex client group. The ability to work well as part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team is essential.



The post forms part of the Brain Injury Team, an interdisciplinary team providing a comprehensive rehabilitation service to adults with acquired brain injury countywide. The post is split across two acute sites. You will have the opportunity to work across acute and community sectors, providing a seamless service to patients following brain injury throughout the recovery pathway, from the immediate post injury stage through to longer term community rehabilitation

To support the operational management of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff working within the team, including supervision, annual appraisal, training and general support. To deal with issues relating to performance management (in consultation with Human resources and the Lead Therapist) to effectively manage staff within the clinical team. The post holder will ensure effective stock control and use of resources to support budget management. This includes reviewing staff resources and skill mix to meet service needs. The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area. To deliver therapeutic interventions, acting as a specialist clinician, using the principles of Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way supported by the Therapy Competency Framework. To use highly specialist clinical reasoning skills and knowledge to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan working as an autonomous practitioner. Contribute to the medical diagnosis and management of care of patients, who may have diverse or complex presentations/multi-pathologies in individual or group therapy sessions.

To be responsible for operational management of the Brain Injury Team by monitoring, coordinating own and other caseloads, including reallocation of work during absence and appropriately delegation to junior therapists and support workers. To communicate with the multi disciplinary team (MDT) to aid effective patient care, which will include taking an active role in team meetings, joint treatment sessions, case conferences and specialist interest group meetings. Either working alone or as part of the multi-disciplinary team, to make recommendations for appropriate and timely discharge. To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing, other allied health professions and other colleagues to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service. To participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff, assisting with the writing of job descriptions, adverts, short listing and interviewing, in order to secure a skilled workforce. To assume responsibility for personal development and ensure other team members are supported for development and supervision by continuing professional development, linked to appraisal As a senior clinical decision maker, support the managerial and operational leadership for the Therapy team in Brain Injury.
