Overview

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Clinical Trial Manager to support an established program of clinical studies in the area of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and heart failure.



You will be based at the University of Sheffield and will work closely with the study Chief Investigator(s) and collaborators to conduct research, coordinate and deliver multi-site studies. You will work closely with other members of the study team (e.g. the clinical research fellow, research nurses, the statistician, the data manager and clinical studies associate) to ensure the implementation of all aspects of studies, including obtaining regulatory approvals, recruiting and initiating study sites, supporting participant recruitment and reporting to relevant stakeholders. You may also monitor study sites and undertake quality control responsibilities related to the study.



You will be working with Prof Alex Rothman, in the running of clinical studies funded by the Medical Research Council, EPSRC, NIHR, BHF and others. Studies aim to establish a means for early evaluation of clinical efficacy and personalised medicine in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and heart failure (HF) to evaluate the efficacy of novel therapies in the area.



You will be supported by Prof Alex Rothman, a senior clinical researcher within the Division of Clinical Medicine, and will be embedded within a flourishing research group. You will be encouraged to develop links within the broader University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals community including the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit and cardiology



You will benefit from attending a seminar series and other scientific meetings held across the University.


This post is fixed-term for 2 years.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of clinical studies. This involves establishing study procedures and processes, developing protocols, and securing ethics and regulatory approvals. You'll ensure all participating centres are properly trained and equipped with the necessary documentation to comply with governance arrangements.



A key focus is the timely recruitment of trial participants using secure randomisation processes, followed by efficient data management. Your duties will include overseeing data collection and reporting, often coordinating the work of other sites, and liaising with statisticians to ensure analysis is undertaken. Ensuring the reliability of data is paramount. You must guarantee compliance with research ethics, clinical governance, data protection, and good clinical practice requirements.



As the central point of contact for all internal and external agencies, you will provide regular information to participants, collaborators, and funders through reports, updates, newsletters, and websites. The role also involves staying current with academic research and contributing to papers for academic journals.



Practical responsibilities include traveling to UK sites for monitoring, providing input on the development of Case Report Forms (e-CRFs), and maintaining all trial files, including the trial master file. You will manage the day-to-day operations of studies, planning work to meet agreed timescales, overseeing study staff where relevant, and monitoring study budgets.
