Job overview




We are looking for a

Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist

, or

Counselling Psychologist,

for the North Norwich Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Team. This is a 12-month fixed-term post to cover a secondment, funded at 26.25 hours (0.70wte) per week.


For interested candidates, there is also opportunity to work in the West Norfolk EIP team in King's Lynn, for up to 15 hours (0.40wte) per week. This post is substantive and will be available after the 12-month fixed term post in the North Norwich team ends. The number of hours to be spent in the North Norwich and West Norfolk teams will be discussed and negotiated with interested candidates during the recruitment process.

Main duties of the job




The successful applicant will provide psychological assessment and treatment for people with psychosis and their families and carers. The post holder will form an integral part of the North Norwich EIP multi-disciplinary team (and the West Norfolk EIP multi-disciplinary team if choosing this option). Job planning will be completed with the successful candidate to ensure that they are able to work safely and competently in accordance with professional guidelines and wellbeing.


Training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar (CBT PB) and/or Family Interventions is desirable, but not essential. In-house training and supervision are available for these models if required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities




The Norfolk and Waveney EIP Service has undergone significant expansion over the last eight years following funding from NHS England for the Access and Waiting Time Standard. The Therapeutic Interventions for Distressing and Unusual Experiences (TIDES) team, which works with people aged 14-35 who are at-risk for developing psychosis, is also included in the Norfolk and Waveney EIP service. The successful candidate will have opportunity to work with colleagues across the service.



Newly qualified psychologists are encouraged to apply. There will be support to achieve individual aims and goals using the Trust preceptorship programme. Please note that those exiting training programmes will be placed on Band 7 whilst completing preceptorship and Band 8a will be awarded once this is complete (if continuing with the substantive West Norfolk EIP role).

Essential criteria




Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS Ongoing further specialist training/accredited short courses Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) #####

Desirable criteria




Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapies) ####

Experience

Essential criteria




Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment. Experience of supervision and teaching. #####

Desirable criteria




Experience of representing psychology within MDT setting (clinical and organisational contexts). Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post. ####

Skills

Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Well -developed communications skills (oral and written). Able to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals, within and outside NHS. Skills in consultation to professional and non - professional groups. Skills in training and supervision. Skills in creating and delivering presentations and training programmes. Skills in neuropsychological assessment. ####

Knowledge

Essential criteria




Doctor level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis. Knowledge of mental health legislation within specialist clinical context. Evidence of CPD as recommended by BPS. #####

Desirable criteria




Well-developed knowledge of theory and practice of specialised psychological intervention and assessment in specialist clinical service-user groups. ####

Other

Essential criteria




Able to identify, provide and promote appropriate support strategies to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours. Able to use multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings. Ability to travel independently. #####

Desirable criteria




Experience of working within a multicultural framework. Experience of providing specific support intervention and strategy for staff.
