Job Description

An exciting part-time opportunity (20 hours per week) has arisen at WDS Accountants Limited. Following expansion of our client portfolio we are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper / Cloud Accountant to join our friendly and professional team in York. The successful candidate must demonstrate:



A good understanding of the fundamentals of accountancy principles and basic accountancy practices.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred experience using Sage Business Cloud Accounting, Sage 50, Xero, QuickBooks's, and Iris Accountancy Suite but further training and support will be provided if required.

Knowledge of alternative softwares such as Xero, Dext & AutoEntry

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

Fast and accurate data entry skills.

. Able to prioritise and manage time effectively

Problem solving skills.

A commercial awareness and understanding of how tasks & activities impact the business and clients

Qualities that would be desired:



Three years of experience in an accountancy practice.

The role will involve:



Manage a portfolio of clients and have primary responsibility for their VAT and bookkeeping compliance reporting deadlines

Preparation of clients monthly, quarterly, or annual bookkeeping and Vat returns, meeting all required timeframes

Ensure that bank and cash accounts are regularly reconciled

Ensure all debtor and creditor ledgers are reviewed and correct regularly when working on clients records

Ensure wage control accounts are reviewed and correct regularly when working on client records

Review all nominal ledgers to ensure consistency and amend any incorrect postings

Ensure the use of automation is used to the full potential and ensure the clients are on the correct software for their business

Inform clients of any HMRC liabilities and refunds

Liaise with clients regarding queries or additional information required to assist with the work being carried out, this may be in person, by telephone, by email or Teams

Liaise with HMRC and other external sources as required

Liaise with client managers with any challenges or issues with their client or where their assistance is required

Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients

Increase fee growth by identifying and promoting additional WDS services, as appropriate to new and existing clients

Provide advice and support to other Accountants and Trainees when required

Contribute to the continual improvement of the organisation by identifying, communicating and where appropriate implementing improvements to the business, supporting business objective

Check all letters, emails, and working papers are correctly and professionally presented using the WDS file structure and templates

Ensure that Iris client data is correct and up to date

Update Iris PM with job stages performed and prioritise work accordingly to meet deadlines

Review client debtor balances on Iris and assist in collection of debt recovery when contacting clients

Other duties as requested by Directors or Senior managers

. Be responsible for your own development, being proactive with personal development and if required keeping your CPD for your qualifications up to date.

This is a part-time position, (20 hours per week) for which we are offering a salary of 25,000 - 30,000 FTE (the salary will be pro-rated to the number of hours worked ) per annum dependant upon experience and qualifications.
