About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive
CNC Department Lead
to lead our CNC machining operations. This hands-on role involves managing CNC programmes, machinery performance, tooling, and staff productivity while ensuring strict adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee
CNC programmes
and
machinery health
(excluding Weake), ensuring correct setup, operation, and maintenance.
Maintain and monitor
tooling
stock and condition, ensuring availability and suitability for each job.
Drive
departmental productivity
, efficiency, and continuous improvement across people and processes.
Lead and appraise
CNC operators and programmers
, setting clear performance targets.
Plan machining operations from technical drawings and specifications, interpreting
GD&T
.
Analyse CAD drawings to determine correct machining parameters including tool selection, speeds, and feeds.
Monitor operations for accuracy, making necessary adjustments to meet dimensional tolerances of
0.2mm
.
Conduct inspections using precision measuring instruments such as
micrometres
,
callipers
,
gauges
, and jigs.
Ensure CNC programmes and outputs align with the requirements set by the Production Manager and Planner.
Review and enhance systems, workflows, and operational processes where needed.
Promote and ensure safe working practices in accordance with
health & safety regulations
and internal procedures.
Take responsibility for the health, safety, and wellbeing of individuals working within the CNC department.
Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the team and business objectives.
Essential Skills & Experience
Significant experience in CNC programming and supervision within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong understanding of
CNC machines
, maintenance principles, and tooling requirements.
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications including
GD&T
.
Proficient in troubleshooting machining issues and optimising machining performance.
Proven track record in managing team performance, conducting appraisals, and improving productivity.
Familiarity with quality inspection tools and techniques.
A safety-first mindset with a clear understanding of H&S legislation and best practices.
