Job Description

At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a CNC Machinist to join our team.


This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Machine Shops offer rough machining and finish machining to exacting tolerances, including complex shapes such as reactor heads for nuclear applications. The department hosts a vast array of milling, turning, boring and finishing machinery including the UK's largest Vertical Turning Lathe and Horizontal Floor Borer.


As a CNC Machinist in this department, you will undertake general machining (predominantly milling) to manufacture high precision products.

What you'll be doing

Operating and programming CNC machine tools. Working to complex engineering drawings. Machining large steel castings and forgings. Slinging and crane driving, manoeuvring large components to facilitate machining operations. Use of Continuous Improvement tools such as 6S to maintain standards.

About You

Experience in using both manual and CNC machines. Extensive experience in milling, ideally multi-skilled in turning and boring as well. Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings. Ability to write and understand CNC programs. Experience of crane driving and slinging is highly desirable.

The Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, on a 3-shift pattern of mornings, afternoons and nights.

These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 - 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
