About the role
Blackpool Design Coachbuilders (BDC) is a specialist coachbuilding business delivering bespoke vehicle conversions and engineered solutions across multiple sectors. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced, multi-skilled Engineering & Production Manager to take ownership of production planning, technical delivery, and engineering support across the business.
This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone with a strong engineering background who is equally comfortable on the workshop floor and supporting commercial and technical decisions alongside the director. CAD and 3D design are not essential at the outset, but the successful candidate will be expected to learn and develop these skills as part of the role.
Key responsibilities
Plan and manage overseas and in-house production activities
Lead and coordinate workshop staff, subcontractors, and production schedules
Support the director with technical input into pricing, quoting, and feasibility
Review customer requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions
Learn, develop, and progressively use CAD and 3D design tools for vehicle layouts and assemblies
Oversee fabrication activities including metal, structural, and vehicle-based work
Manage procurement of materials, components, and specialist services
Work closely with suppliers to control cost, quality, and lead times
Drive continuous improvement in build quality, efficiency, and processes
Ensure builds meet required technical, safety, and quality standards
Skills and experience required
Engineering background with a practical, multi-skilled skillset
Experience in production planning and workshop staff management
Strong understanding of fabrication and bespoke manufacturing
Willingness and ability to learn CAD and 3D design as part of the role
Commercial awareness with the ability to support pricing and technical quotes
Procurement experience and supplier management
Strong problem-solving ability in a low-volume, bespoke environment
Confident communicator able to work closely with directors, engineers, and trades
Desirable but not essential
Coachbuilding, vehicle conversion, or specialist manufacturing experience
Exposure to overseas production or subcontracted manufacturing
Experience with CAD or 3D design software (training and support can be provided)
