Salary: Up to 105,000-110,000 per annum + benefits

The Opportunity
A well-established specialist engineering contractor operating within the UK rail and transport infrastructure sector is seeking to appoint a Commercial Director following a recent senior leadership departure.
This is a key executive-level appointment, offering the opportunity to lead the commercial function of a growing, privately owned infrastructure business delivering complex projects across telecommunications, systems and building services environments.
The role will be London-based (near Euston) with hybrid working and regular engagement across operational sites and client locations.
Role Overview
The Commercial Director will take full responsibility for the commercial strategy, governance and performance of the business. Reporting into the executive leadership team, the role will play a critical part in driving profitable growth, managing risk, supporting business development and strengthening commercial controls across live projects and future opportunities.
This position requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on commercial oversight within a technically complex, safety-critical infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the commercial function across multiple projects and frameworks
Own commercial strategy, forecasting, reporting and governance at board level
Provide commercial leadership across bids, tenders and contract negotiations
Ensure robust risk management, contract compliance and margin protection
Support operational teams with commercial insight and decision-making
Develop and implement commercial policies, processes and best practice
Act as a senior commercial interface with clients, partners and key stakeholders
Mentor and develop commercial managers and project teams
Candidate Profile
Proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role within rail, infrastructure, engineering or construction
Strong background in managing complex contracts, negotiations and risk
Experience supporting or leading bid and tender activity
Comfortable operating at executive / board level
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Commercially astute with a strategic mindset and delivery focus
Experience with NEC and/or JCT contracts highly advantageous
