Job Description

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled Commercial Lawyer to provide expert legal support within the public sector. You will handle complex legal matters and contribute to a range of projects.
The Commercial Lawyer position will involve the following tasks:

  • Advising on, negotiating and drafting a wide variety of public contracts and commercial agreements including those that facilitate the provision of financial support
  • Supporting due diligence work in connection with bids and investment by way of grant; debt, equity or joint venture
  • Advising on the use, review and adaptation of standard form agreements including contracts for services, grants, consultancy contracts, and other corporate finance documentation
  • Advising on the interpretation and the enforcement of contracts and on potential disputes
  • Advising on company law and corporate governance in respect of wholly owned subsidiaries
  • Support and cover for colleagues within the Department as directed by the Senior Lawyer or Deputy Director of Legal Services or the Director of Legal Services
  • Provide training in areas of expertise to client departments

A successful Commercial Lawyer should have:
  • A recognised legal qualification and eligibility to practise as a solicitor or barrister
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial law and public sector procurement processes
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex contracts and agreements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders
  • A commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional integrity
