Overall Purpose of the Role



As Commercial Manager, and part of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for managing all commercial aspects of the business. Based at our Head Office in Bolton, you will be expected to lead and influence a high performing team of quantity surveyors and commercial admin across all regions.

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role will have ownership for driving performance and ensuring that scheme performance is being delivered against expectation whilst working closely with both internal and external stakeholders. Given the nature of this role, candidates are expected to possess strong commercial skills, be customer focused and have a good knowledge of the utility industry.

What you will be doing:

Taking accountability and ownership for defining and delivering the weekly and monthly cost / value reconciliation process ensuring that the team are effectively managing projects to drive value and margin. Having a positive and pro-active approach to change is essential. With a team of 12 FTEs, this role will be responsible for leading and influencing their team to streamline current processes and influence decision making across the business. Driving a culture of margin improvement. Liaising with various departments including design, finance and operations to report and manage commercial performance across the business. Establish yourself as a key member of the senior leadership team to help build relationships and collaboratively drive commercial improvements. Lead the monthly operational meetings to discuss regional performance of schemes, taking accountability for performance to interrogate performance and ensure appropriate actions in place to resolve any underperformance. Defining and enhancing current processes around asset adoption working closely with asset adopters across all multi utility services. Working capital management, a key part of this role will be working closely with finance to support the management of client debt and reduce WIP. Key client and subcontractor liaison from a commercial perspective
What we ask from you

Experience in the Utilities Industry

: Understanding of the utilities sector, including gas, electricity, and water infrastructure.

Commercial Skills:

Commercial Management and familiarity with Contract Terms.

Contract Negotiation Skills

: Ability to negotiate contracts effectively with suppliers and clients.

Financial Management Expertise

: Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, cash flow management, and management of cost value reconciliation.

Project Management Skills:

Experience in managing projects from inception to completion.

Leadership and Team Management:

Ability to lead and motivate a team of commercial staff. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders.

Problem-solving and Analytical Skills:

Ability to identify and solve complex problems

IT Literate:

Proficient in use of Excel spreadsheets and document management packages

This is a full-time position working within an office environment
