Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute

Commercial Manager

to join our growing team within the water and utilities sector. You will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management across a portfolio of projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and efficiency in line with NEC contract frameworks.


This role is integral to successful project delivery and long-term client relationships, supporting both operational and financial performance on major clean and wastewater infrastructure works.

Key Responsibilities



Lead and manage commercial functions on assigned projects from pre-contract to final account. Ensure effective management of NEC contracts, including option selection, change management, and early warnings. Prepare accurate project forecasts, valuations, cost reports, and risk registers. Support procurement of subcontractors, manage subcontractor accounts, and oversee supplier negotiations. Provide strategic input into project planning, bid proposals, and contractual risk mitigation. Collaborate with project managers, design teams, and finance to drive commercial performance. Produce and present monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and ensure alignment with budgets. Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities across the contract lifecycle. Liaise with client commercial teams and contribute to building strong and sustainable client relationships. Monitor compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry regulations (e.g., Ofwat standards).

Requirements



Essential:



Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, utilities, or water projects. Strong working knowledge of

NEC3/NEC4

contracts and their application in the infrastructure environment. Solid understanding of construction law and commercial processes. Proficient in cost management tools and Microsoft Excel. Ability to influence, negotiate, and lead commercial discussions with clients and suppliers. Excellent analytical and reporting skills.

Desirable:



Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar. Member of RICS or working toward chartership. * Experience with AMP7/AMP8 projects within the UK water sector.
