The Commercial Division within Channel 4 is responsible for bringing in the clients that fund Channel 4's incredible programming platform and the commercial marketing team sit right at the centre. Their core remit is to develop the Channel 4 take-to-market story supporting the entire sales team across comms, awards, events and more. This team is responsible for helping to create the story that entices advertisers to the channel and build a reputation that ensures Channel 4 stays front of mind for our agency partners and clients and the wider industry.
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting into the Senior Commercial Marketing Lead (SCML), this role both supports the creation of, and leads on the execution of the commercial marketing strategy as well as leading the comms & marketing aspects of Channel 4 Sales initiatives all of which promote Channel 4 Sales, Channel 4 and its related businesses to advertising customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In consultation with the SCML, take ownership of creation and delivery of the annual commercial marketing plan.
Maintain an overview across our business messaging and market activity, to help guide our strategic marketing objectives.
Become the lead day-to-day marketing contact for the key specialism teams in Channel 4Sales, including the Customer teams, digital specialists, and content and creative solutions, maintaining an ongoing dialogue to identify and implement marketing support where necessary.
Be the lead day-to-day contact for the key interdependent teams & depts, including Advertising Research & Development, Marketing, Press, and 4Creative.
Support the SCML to create and leverage external trade body relationships to the benefit of Channel 4Sales; Thinkbox, AA, Marketing Society, IPA and ISBA etc.
Take ownership of the curation, development and delivery of key trade marketing initiatives and schemes, including Channel 4's Black in Business Award, core insight-led projects, and working with the SCML on new and upcoming initiatives across the year.
Own the annual awards strategy, taking responsibility for entry writing across awards and award pitches.
Support the Commercial Marketing Executive to learn the ropes of Channel 4 Sales and Channel 4, ensuring both on and offline marketing is managed in line with the 2024/5 commercial marketing narrative
Work alongside the Event Lead to curate an event strategy which sits within the broader marketing strategy and find opportunities to showcase Channel 4 Sales at all events, bon in house and external
Line manage the Commercial Marketing Apprentice, briefing her on set tasks to help the team and supporting her on her growth opportunities at Channel 4.
The role requires strong knowledge of the media advertising marketing
Experience in marketing is essential with expert knowledge of TV & digital advertising
The ability to manage multiple and simultaneous projects
The ability to manage relationships with individuals at all levels and specifically senior stakeholders within both channel 4 and external suppliers and partners.
Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making This role has a high degree of autonomy and will report to the SCML but will work independently to deliver specific business critical projects of ownership.
Required to manage own workload, timescales and delivery.
Managing Resources Responsibility for agreed elements of the commercial marketing budget including signing off invoices.
Management of a range of external suppliers.
Works collaboratively with colleagues in a positive and supportive manner, acting as a guide and font of knowledge for all marketing related activity.
Relationship Management Proven track record of managing relationships with partners and suppliers at all levels.
Manage internal relationships across a wide range of departments (including Marketing, and Commissioning).
Must be capable of diplomatically handling conflict situations from internal and external clients & suppliers.
Complexity/Problem Solving Find creative solutions to a variety of problems with internal and external stakeholders.
Happy to work within rapidly changing priorities and able to adapt easily.
Proven communication skills and flexibility are important.
Manage direct suppliers through complex and unexpected project issues.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Significant experience in a senior commercial/trade marketing role.
Strong knowledge of the media advertising market.
An in -depth understanding of the UK AV sector.
Proven track record of managing annual marketing plans.
Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Proven experience of budget management.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Understanding of the UK TV advertising market-place.
Professional marketing qualification.
Experience in writing entries for advertising industry award schemes (e.g Media Week Awards).
Basic salary per annum starting from
63,000.00

Hybrid working
From September 2023, C4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern, equating to three office days per week.
