Mercia Design and Build Ltd are currently looking to welcome and experienced Commercial / Procurement Manager to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing supply chains, negotiating contract terms whilst working closely with other members of the team to ensure that all projects run smoothly, on time and within budget. As the Commercial Procurement Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement strategy and ensuring effective purchasing of materials, subcontractor packages and services across multiple construction projects. Key responsibilities include:
Taking responsibility?for the financial management and procurement of materials for numerous projects
Developing and managing procurement plans aligned with project timelines and budgets
Sourcing and selecting suppliers, negotiating contracts and terms to achieve best value
Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability and quality
Managing tender processes and evaluating subcontractor bids
Ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements
Collaborating with project managers, quantity surveyors, and site teams to support delivery
Identifying and mitigating risks in supply chains
Monitoring market trends to inform purchasing decisions and cost strategies
Recognising business opportunities and risks
Strategically expanding, preserving?or improving?company procedures, standards or policies
Adhering to regulatory guidelines.
Negotiating and procuring materials, raising purchase orders and reconciling costs against cost plans
Planning, coordinating, and overseeing the execution of residential and commercial construction projects
The ability to forward plan, look at upcoming requirements and forecast schedules in order to create program efficiencies
Developing and reviewing project drawings and designs with architects and engineers
Monitoring and controlling costs to ensure the project is completed within budget
Conducting regular on-site updates to ensure adherence to drawings, specifications, and safety standards
Resolving any problems, disputes, or issues that may arise during the construction process
Reporting on project progress, budget, tasks, and risks to the directors
Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation
Qualifications
Proven work experience as a Commercial / Procurement Manager
Knowledge of construction project management processes, means and methods
Understanding of all facets of the construction process
Strong commercial awareness
Excellent negotiation and communication skills
A proactive mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting are essential
