Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Commis Chef to support the kitchen team on a temporary basis at a busy village pub. The role involves working closely under the instruction of the Head Chef, assisting with food preparation, service, and maintaining kitchen standards while the Head Chef recovers from a (non-work related!) injury.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being part of a small, close-knit team that works well together, supports one another during busy services, and takes pride in delivering consistent, good-quality pub food. The pub is well connected by public transport, making it accessible for applicants travelling from nearby towns and villages.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out food preparation tasks as directed by the Head Chef
Assist during service to ensure smooth and timely food output
Prepare ingredients, sauces, and basic dishes to specification
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen areas
Follow food hygiene, health & safety, and allergen procedures at all times
Assist with stock rotation and basic kitchen checks where required
Work flexibly to support the needs of the kitchen and the wider team during the temporary period
Skills & Experience
Previous kitchen experience as a Commis Chef or Kitchen Assistant
Basic food preparation and knife skills
Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to set standards
Good time management and reliability
A positive attitude, team-focused approach, and willingness to help where needed
Requirements
Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene
Ability to work on your feet for extended periods
Right to work in the UK
