Working Hours:

37.5 hours worked per week inclusive of a 30 minute unpaid meal break per day. This means paid hours are 35 per week, 5 days out of 7 per week.

Job Purpose:



To support the kitchen team in the preparation, cooking, and service of food to the highest standards in a professional and timely manner. The Commis Chef plays a vital role in maintaining quality, cleanliness, and consistency, contributing to the smooth running of the kitchen within a contract catering environment.

Key Responsibilities:



Assist in the preparation of food items under the supervision of senior chefs, following daily menus and recipes. Ensure high standards of food hygiene and health & safety are maintained at all times. Follow Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) practices and company HACCP procedures. Accurately label and store ingredients and prepared dishes in compliance with food safety guidelines. Assist with the daily setup, service, and clear-down of the kitchen and service areas. Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment, surfaces, and storage areas. Support stock rotation and stock checks as directed. Receive and store deliveries, checking for quality and temperature compliance. Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure a positive customer experience. Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required. Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the Head Chef or management team.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Food preparation skills and a genuine passion for cooking. Understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team. Good communication skills and a positive attitude. Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills. Flexibility to work a 5 over 7 shift pattern, including weekends.

Desirable:



Previous experience in a professional kitchen or catering environment. Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate (or willingness to complete). Knowledge of allergen awareness and dietary requirements.
