Summary of Role




We are looking for an enthusiastic & driven authorised SR141 Engineer to join our Energy Business, to test and commission electrical Protection & Control Systems: from modifications of existing systems through to replacement and new systems.


This role is suitable for existing National Grid SR141 authorised and experienced Commissioning Engineers. This role will be based between our Stone Head Office and Client Sites around the UK.


The suitable candidate must be able to communicate effectively with the customer, interpret designs (including schedules, drawings etc.), have a good understanding of system engineering design and be prepared to be involved in and lead site visits for the purpose of installation & commissioning work. The suitable candidate would also be required to contribute to the creation and development of test & commissioning documentation including Commissioning Switching Programmes, Commissioning Method Statements, etc.


Key Responsibilities:




Planning and completion of site acceptance testing and commissioning activities for Protection and Control Systems with a HV Substation in line with approved test documentation, procedures and SR141 Commissioning Authorisation.

Performing functional and performance testing of protection systems, control systems, control panels and associated secondary equipment & infrastructure.

Witness and support factory acceptance testing in line with approved test documentation. Ensure installation, test & commissioning work is carried out in line with agreed technical procedures, methods and standards.

Attend and provide input to NG SR106 Commissioning Panel Meetings

Produce, collate & manage the project commissioning file

Control of drawings and schematics and Mark-up of these where changes are identified as required through test and commissioning activities

Development and review of commissioning and test documentation including Commissioning Switching Programmes, Commissioning Method Statements, test reports, certificates, and handover records, etc.

Deployment of configuration and setting files to SCADA BCU's, RTU's, Protection Relays and Network devices (Ethernet Switches etc.) including subsequent verification.

Define required site equipment and materials to support the Commissioning activities.

Manage, maintain and control commissioning spares and test equipment.

Responsible for the control LOTO in line with safe working procedures including permits where required.

Identifying, investigating, and rectifying technical issues and faults during the commissioning and energisation phases.

Liaising with project managers, site teams, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth project delivery.

Safety Leadership: Enforcing health, safety, and environmental best practices on site.

Candidate Profile:



Suitably qualified or experienced in an Electrical Engineering discipline

Current or previous National Grid SR141 (or BP141/TP141) authorisation is essential.

Proven, extensive experience in commissioning HV substations (132kV to 400kV), protection & control systems, and grid infrastructure.

Strong understanding of electrical systems, control schemes, protection relays, grid codes, and relevant industry standards.

Understanding of communication networks and differing communication protocols including IEC61850, GOOSE and media types utilised (i.e. Ethernet over fibre optic, serial copper, etc.)

Computer literate with respect to the production of documentation (Microsoft Office)

Computer literate with respect to the deployment of configuration files & verification to electrical devices

Experience of writing, developing & contributing to Test & Commissioning specifications & plans

Experience of industrial supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems

Excellent communication and team skills.

Structured and analytical way of working.

Ability to Lead/work as part of a team.

Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines and to motivate others to achieve the same.

Be flexible in methods of working to achieve best outcomes.

Full UK drivers' licence and willingness to travel.
