In this role, the Commissioning Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the deployment, supervision, and successful commissioning of Armstrong's packaged plant room and HVAC systems across data centre projects in the UK and Europe. This role bridges the gap between manufacturing, logistics, and on-site commissioning, ensuring all installation and commissioning activities are executed safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
Key Accountabilities
Site Supervision & Execution
Supervise the installation, commissioning, and testing of packaged plant room systems and HVAC solutions at customer sites.
Lead and coordinate internal field engineers, skilled trades, and third-party contractors on-site.
Manage site deployment planning, aligning with project milestones and logistics.
Track site progress, escalate risks or issues to stakeholders promptly.
Technical Oversight & Compliance
Provide technical oversight and troubleshooting for mechanical and electrical systems during installation and commissioning.
Ensure compliance with Armstrong's HSE, quality standards, risk assessments, method statements, and safe working procedures.
Contribute to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Work closely with the Commissioning Manager, internal teams, client representatives, and subcontractors to ensure smooth site execution.
Facilitate cross-functional feedback for continuous improvement in commissioning processes, systems integration, and customer satisfaction.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate documentation of commissioning activities and provide input for project completion reports and customer handovers.
What We're Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Formal qualifications in mechanical/electrical engineering (e.g., HNC/HND or equivalent).
Extensive experience in supervising installation and commissioning of HVAC or mechanical/electrical systems, particularly in data centre environments.
Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
Technical Skills:
Previous proven experience in a similar position.
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems relevant to HVAC and pumping technologies.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and layout schematics.
Familiarity with data centre project lifecycles and customer-specific commissioning protocols.
Working knowledge of building management systems (BMS) or remote monitoring platforms.
Valid CSCS, SMSTS, or equivalent site supervisor accreditation.
Full UK Driver's License.
Soft Skills:
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and QA/QC practices.
Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time across the UK and Europe.
