Job Description

The Oversight Board makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook and Instagram. Members of the Board include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford's Constitutional Law Center, and many other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world. The Board issued its first decisions in January 2021.





The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who support Board Members in carrying out their duties. The Administration has a presence in London, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and operates with a global scope.

The role





Joining the Oversight Board Administration is a chance to be part of an organization which is leading on some of the most prominent and challenging issues facing the tech industry and society.



Reporting to the Head of US Communications and Global Engagement, the successful post holder will be execution-focused driving the Oversight Board's presence and stakeholder engagement across Europe, Middle East and Africa. This role will advance the Board's position on complex regulatory and societal technology issues, with a particular emphasis on platform governance, AI, and systemic risks.



Responsibilities include:

Outreach

and Engagement




Lead on EMEA outreach and engagement, cultivating and managing relationships with key national and international stakeholders across the tech industry, public sector (including EU institutions), and civil society. Ensure the Board's work on systemic risks and platform oversight is visible, understood, and impactful. Plan and execute on-the-ground engagements, including events, roundtables, briefings, and bilateral meetings that align with the Board's global priorities. Position the Oversight Board as a leading voice at the nexus of platform governance, emerging technologies, and accountability. Identify and capitalise on opportunities to shape public and policy debates around EU and global regulatory frameworks.


Strategic Communications & Media Relations




Draft and edit hight-quality communications materials, including briefing notes, talking points, op-eds, speeches, and press releases. Partner with content policy and editorial staff to develop external narratives and messaging strategies for major case decisions, policy papers, and advisory opinions. Anticipate and respond to reputational risks, working across internal teams and external partners to protect and reinforce the Board's independence. Secure high-impact media coverage in EMEA through proactive pitching, interview preparation, and crisis response. Work closely with external consultants, contractors and agencies to align and coordinate on the execution of communications plans, manage deliverables and approvals, and ensure integration with internal workflows.




In addition to the above key areas of focus the post holder will:


Produce High-Quality Communication Materials:

Create compelling written materials, including press releases, talking points, and briefing notes, to support diverse external communication needs.

Coordinate and Execute Global Board Member Engagements:

Plan and execute on-the-ground engagements with Board Members at international conferences, meetings, and events, including preparation for media and external engagements, requiring frequent international travel primarily in the EMEA region.

Manage and Mitigate Reputational Risks:

Address reputational issues by providing clear guidance and implementing appropriate action
in accordance with internal protocols.

Develop Thought Leadership Content:

Craft strategic messaging, op-eds, and policy papers to advance the Board's position on complex regulatory and societal technology issues.

Collaborate on Content Policy Narratives:

Partner with content policy staff to develop compelling external narratives surrounding case decisions and impact.

kills & Experience





Essential:


Demonstrable experience in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment working with corporate, tech, agency or startup environment. Experience working within European tech regulatory environment or in a role with a focus on this work. Experience in managing roll-out of integrated and coordinated global communications plans and products. Experienced in stakeholder mapping and building and maintaining relationships with policymakers, journalists, and civil society stakeholders. Experience in writing high-quality comms materials (press releases, opinion pieces, briefings) to deadline, preferably on matters related to technology/ human rights and society. Proven ability to handle sensitive reputational matters and manage crisis communications effectively. Comfortable with frequent travel, tight deadlines, and on-the-ground execution of comms and engagement activities. Experience in start to finish process of all aspects of event management including logistics and content. Experience staffing and briefing executives. Strong global competency and cultural fluency, with the humility and versatility to move fluidly between high-level engagements and rolling up your sleeves to ensure seamless execution. Up to date knowledge of regulatory issues and key debates around AI, systemic risks, and digital rights.




Desirable:


Background in human rights, tech policy, regulation, or media. Proficiency in foreign languages Interest in and understanding of the technology sector's regulatory landscape and societal impacts, particularly around digital rights and user protections. Experience working on issues related to the Oversight Board's strategic priorities.
