This is an exciting opportunity to join Cogwheel Counselling at a time of change for the Charity when strengthening awareness of the services offered and further developing its fundraising activities will be key.

You will become a key part of a small, committed and passionate team dedicated to the provision of affordable counselling in the local community.

Background



Cogwheel Counselling is a Cambridge-based charity founded in 1988 which provides affordable mental health counselling to residents of all ages in Cambridge and the County. In 2024, Cogwheel provided over 4,000 counselling sessions and was approached by nearly 450 people seeking help for their wellbeing.

The objectives of this part-time role are to assist in:

increasing the engagement of the wider community and current supporter base with the organisation raising awareness and understanding of the objectives of Cogwheel Counselling in Cambridge and the County supporting the development and delivering Cogwheel's fundraising strategy
This part-time role holder will work closely with the Charity Fundraising Manager to help Cogwheel develop and implement its fundraising strategy and increase its community profile and presence.

Number of hours:

30 hours per month

Term of initial contract:

12 month fixed-term contract until 31st May 2026

Work location

: Role will primarily be based remotely working from home with regular attendance needed at Charity offices at 66 Devonshire Road, Cambridge, CB1 2BL

Role responsibilities



Strategy

Actively contribute to charity marketing, information and communications strategy working with senior members of staff and Trustees

Website & social media

Be responsible for the charity website - maintain/update on a regular basis with engaging copy and support colleagues in producing material for the website. Website work may need to take priority at start of role. Design information / marketing campaigns for social media platforms and be responsible for scheduling social media posts to increase awareness of services and fundraising potential Work with the Head of Services to produce information on mental wellbeing support and social media scheduling

Charity information materials

Design, create, coordinate, publish/print and distribution of charity marketing and information materials including preparation of text when required. Create and produce Annual Report and regular newsletters for external stakeholder and community use Collect and collate client feedback information

Charity profile with business and voluntary sector

Develop and work with the Fundraising Manager to develop a detailed understanding on how the charity can best leverage benefit from businesses' social responsibility agenda and networking, and the wider voluntary / community sector including churches and other community groups

Supporting charity events

Work with the Fundraising manager on organising charity community events including creating publicity materials Assist in organisation of and attendance at community events

Donor and volunteer database

Work to develop donor and volunteer supporter base and ensure Charity is GDPR compliant

Fundraising administration

Working to ensure all contact with the charity including all donations of support are attended to in a timely manner Collation, recording and presentation of information as required
Different areas of responsibility may require prioritising at different times.

Qualities Needed



Essential:

Knowledge and experience of social media Knowledge and experience of maintaining websites Experience in producing reports and newsletters Strong creative and imaginative flair in producing publicity materials for social media use Strong IT skills and organisational skills Good understanding and strong support of the Charity objectives and ethos Team player able to engage and foster a collegial spirit Able to work without supervision Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

Knowledge/ experience of working in charitable/ community sector Experience of event organisation
