Job Description

As part of Bouygues Construction's Public Works division, VSL International participates in the construction of major technical structures and guarantees their structural safety and durability: transport infrastructure (bridges, tunnels), industrial and energy production structures, and commercial buildings.

Project

Sizewell C is at the heart of the UK's clean energy revolution. This landmark nuclear power station in Suffolk will provide low-carbon electricity for millions of homes and play a vital role in achieving the UK's net zero targets. Supported by EDF and the UK Government, Sizewell C is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver sustainable energy infrastructure at scale.

Within the VSL Sub-Alliance, we are responsible for a range of specialist ground engineering works, including deep soil mixing, plastic cut-off walls, embankments, and load transfer platforms -- all of which form essential enabling works for the main power station.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Accountant to lead a small team of part-qualified finance professionals and take responsibility for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial results for VSL's scope of work at Sizewell C.

This role combines financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis with stakeholder support, ensuring that site management teams are provided with clear insights to make informed decisions. You will oversee the production of monthly accounts, budget reforecasts, and key financial indicators, while proactively identifying risks, efficiencies, and improvement opportunities.

Main Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Lead the preparation of monthly financial results (P&L and balance sheet), ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Manage forecasting exercises including annual budgets, reforecasts, and variance analysis.

Produce and present key financial indicators, trends, and insights to support stakeholder decision-making.

Analysis & Recommendations

Monitor and analyse operational expenses, identifying efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.

Evaluate and challenge budgeting and operational performance using benchmarks and data-driven insights.

Provide recommendations to site management to optimise supplier payments, debtor days, and cash flow.

Commercial & Contractual Support

Proactively analyse and audit contractual compliance, highlighting risks and ensuring VSL secures full entitlement.

Draft contractual claims where commercial shortfalls are identified.

Support general managers in mitigating performance penalties through root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Provide input into tendering and new opportunities, including pricing and modelling.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

Lead and mentor a small team of finance professionals, reviewing their work and supporting development.

Drive continuous improvement by optimising reporting tools and management systems.

Identify opportunities for efficiency and implement ideas from the finance team.

Candidate Profile

Education & Qualifications

Ideally CIMA or ACCA part-qualified, or working towards qualification.

Strong foundation in management accounts and financial analysis.

Experience

Proven experience in preparing and interpreting financial information to support decision-making.

Previous experience in construction, engineering, or large infrastructure projects desirable.

Knowledge of contractual finance and commercial claims advantageous.

Technical Skills

Excellent Excel skills; experience with SAP or other ERP systems is an advantage.

Strong data analysis and reporting skills with attention to detail.

Personal Attributes

Proactive, organised, and able to work independently with initiative.

Strong communication skills with confidence to challenge assumptions and present recommendations.

Flexible, adaptable, and willing to travel to multiple sites.

Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and motivate a small team.
