Oxford Physics is one of the largest and most eminent departments in Europe - pursuing cutting edge research alongside training the next generation of leaders in physics.

The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Communications Officer in a full-time permanent position (part-time considered; minimum 0.8FTE).

The Communications Officer will work with the Head of Communications to deliver the communication strategy (internal and external) for the Department of Physics. The postholder will use their background in physics/science and proven track record in science copywriting to work with researchers to produce impactful content for the Department of Physics' communication channels. They will work as part of a small team to increase the profile of the Department of Physics to a broad range of audiences.

The postholder will spend their time generating engaging, dynamic content that promotes the work of the Department of Physics and will help to manage the Department of Physics' communication channels.

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience with the ability to engage rapidly and effectively with scientific material. You will have internal and external science communications experience in print, digital, and social media and you will also have excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to communicate complex concepts to a non-specialist audience. Your excellent interpersonal skills will include diplomacy and the ability to inspire confidence in senior colleagues. You will have the ability to work independently in a complex environment, taking initiative when necessary and prioritising effectively to meet deadlines. You will be proficient in working with a range of computer-based and online applications, including website content management systems and you will have excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex data.

Grade 7: 38,674-46,913 per annum

Whilst the role is a grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at grade 6 (34,982 - 40,855) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly.
