The Communications Producer is a key member of our year-round team, supporting festival communications across all channels, online and in print, for the festival and DocFest's charitable activities. Acting as a brand guardian for the festival, the role ensures our messaging is clear, consistent and accessible. It works collegially with the programme and Engagement teams to maximise our engagement and outreach to all festival audiences.
Together with the Festival Communications Lead and Festival Communications Coordinator, deliver the Communications plan for Sheffield DocFest editions through web, social media, e-news and partner outreach
Compile and copy-edit regular e-news for public and industry audiences, ensuring key opportunities and information are shared, the festival's tone of voice and style is consistent and accessible
Generate and coordinate social media - adding our voice to relevant industry and community conversations and engaging with and responding to followers, in line with the charity's objectives
Working across teams, coordinate Sheffield DocFest's website, ensuring user navigation is clear and information is up to date across all pages
Work with the Press Team to amplify press assets and coverage, making the most of original editorial content and supporting administratively.
Generate and implement new ideas to creatively publicise festival passes and tickets to increase sales and diversify audiences
Directly target and promote the DocLover ticket offer to local organisations to maximise group ticket sales
Coordinate the Communication strategy supporting the DocFest Membership schemes
Promote the festival's call for entries, including for the Film, Alternate Realities, Talks and Marketplace programme, building on relationships with peers at relevant organisations
Work closely with the Partnership Manager to coordinate funder, sponsor and partner branding digitally and at venues
With the Partnership Manager, sell advertising space as required
Research and engage relevant partners for the promotion of both the festival and year-round programme, building and maintaining meaningful contacts and networks
Coordinate Local stakeholder events, programme launch and other promotional campaign events; issuing invitations, collating RSVPs, branding and setting up the venue and greeting guests
Provide a key point of contact with the Festival's Designer/s, issuing briefs, relaying feedback and monitoring progress against deliverables
Design any further required banners, adverts, and graphics as part of campaigns and partner deliverables, utilising the given templates across Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
Create cinema slides, liaising with the Production team to convert to DCP, and deliver to appropriate venues;
Lead the production and distribution of publications, including the editing, formatting and proofing processes in collaboration with the Programming Team
Lead the filming and delivery of all video content captured across the festival, including recordings of talks and sessions, interviews with high-profile industry talent and festival highlights videos
Coordinate and support the recruitment of the Festival Videography and Photography Volunteers and their documentation (Images and digital assets),
Work closely with the Festival Communications Coordinator, ensuring Communications Volunteers are well briefed and supported, timelines are adhered to, and deadlines are met;
Coordinate the production and installation of signage and wayfinding for the festival
Attend and feed into the post-festival debrief and venue debriefs
Feed-in comments for appropriate sections of, and support production and dissemination of, the Festival Report.
Ensure GDPR compliance when administering contacts for the department, including management of mailing and invitation lists
Research and suggest new / trending communication tools to future-proof festival communications and maximise our outreach and engagement. With a particular focus on audience development metrics.
Collate and analyse analytics from the communications campaigns, reporting on successes and suggestions for next time and supporting required festival reporting
Represent the festival at industry & educational events, talks and local stakeholder events
Actively engage with the charity's vision and policies regarding equal opportunities and diversity, artistic ambition, participation and engagement
Any other duties as reasonably required to fulfil the role and responsibilities
Key requirements
3 years relevant experience in a communications role (E)
Demonstrated commitment to Inclusion and Equity (E)
Proficiency with graphic design packages such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects, or similar video editing tools (E)
Proficient copywriter with excellent English language and grammar (E)
Multitasker able to prioritise and implement systems in a busy environment (E)
Social media management experience and familiarity with scheduling and analytics platforms (E)
Enthusiasm for and experience working in arts, culture and audience development (E)
Written and in-person presentation skills (D)
Interest in Film, in particular documentary (D)
