AssetCool is a pioneering startup developing advanced power line coatings and robotic deployment systems to enhance power grid efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Our innovative technologies enable live-line application of coatings and other solutions to reduce power losses, manage noise, and extend asset lifespan. With multiple large-scale projects across the UK, Canada, and Europe, we are scaling rapidly to meet increasing market demand.
About the Role
We are looking for a Communication Systems Engineer with a strong background in Telecommunications, Networking, and Wireless Communication to lead the development of robust remote-control solutions for our robotic platform. This role requires expertise in RC control, WiFi, LoRa, and other wireless protocols to ensure seamless operation in real-world conditions.
Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a Mechatronics background, with solid experience in electronics design and PCB development to create custom hardware solutions for our platform.
This position requires a hands-on problem solver with strong expertise in wireless communication protocols, embedded electronics, and PCB design. If you thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and enjoy pushing the boundaries of wireless and embedded systems, we'd love to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop low-latency wireless comms for remote-controlled robots (e.g. WiFi, LoRa, 4G/5G).
Build and test robust PCBs and embedded hardware for long-range, real-time control.
Own the comms architecture--from protocol selection to RF tuning and field testing.
Work hands-on with our robotics and embedded teams to integrate and optimise signal pathways.
Prototype, test, and iterate quickly in both lab and live environments.
Lead documentation, testing reports, and technical troubleshooting.
Mentor junior engineers and support hiring as we scale.
Required Skills & Qualifications
5+ years' experience designing wireless systems for real-world, mobile, or autonomous systems.
Solid grasp of RF protocols (WiFi, LoRa, Zigbee, LTE/5G) and networking (TCP/IP, MQTT, UDP).
Hands-on PCB design (Altium, KiCad, or similar), and experience sourcing/managing components.
Familiarity with embedded systems (STM32, ESP32, ARM) and debugging hardware/software interfaces.
Confident troubleshooting signal integrity, interference, or range issues in the field.
Bonus: experience with CAN Bus, robotics platforms, RTOS, or edge computing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with robotics, automation, or industrial control systems.
Experience with FCC, CE, or other regulatory compliance for wireless devices.
Knowledge of AI-driven communication optimizations or edge computing for wireless applications.
Why Join Us?
Be part of an innovative startup developing next-generation robotic platforms.
Work with cutting-edge technologies in wireless networking, embedded systems, and IoT.
Have a high level of autonomy and direct impact on product development.
Work on global projects with real-world applications.
