We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Community and Events Leader to grow and diversify the Centre's programme of activities and events. This is a varied and hands-on role combining strategic planning, marketing, event co-ordination, and operational delivery. You will ensure the Barrington Centre is fully utilised, accessible, and welcoming for all users. The role involves physical activity such as setting up rooms and using access equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations and Bookings
Oversee the day-to-day management of room bookings and ensure spaces and facilities (including the communal servery) are prepared and presented to a high standard.
Manage scheduling, logistics, and coordination for all Centre activities and events, including undertaking room set-ups when necessary and liaison with the Council's cleaning contractor.
Oversee the contract arrangements for all bookings.
Community Engagement and Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with local groups, charities, performers, and organisations.
Promote the Centre to a wide and inclusive audience, encouraging community participation.
Programme Curation
Curate and coordinate a vibrant calendar of events, activities, and classes that reflect the interests and needs of the local community.
Collaborate with the Council and committees to deliver civic events such as town commemorations.
Marketing and Communications
Develop and implement a marketing strategy across digital and print platforms, including managing the Centre's website and social media channels.
Work to increase awareness, attendance, and income through targeted promotional campaigns.
Liaise with the Committee Clerk and Mayor's Assistant to agree and maintain a house stylefor internal and external communications.
Leadership and Team Management
Line manage the Box Office Assistant and supervise bar staff and volunteers.
Foster a collaborative team culture that values professionalism, inclusivity, and customer service.
Venue and Bar Operations
Support and oversee the operation of the Centre's bar during events.
Ensure compliance with licensing and safety regulations.
Budget Control
Jointly with the Duty Manager, to manage and oversee the Barrington Arts and Community Centre budget.
Liaise with the Duty Manager, Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer to prepare draft budget.
Liaise with the Responsible Financial officer to ensure that events are financially viable.
Health and Safety
In conjunction with the Town Clerk and Duty Manager, to ensure that the Barrington Arts and Community Centre's health and safety arrangements are robust and followed.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience
Proven experience in community engagement, event planning, or venue management.
Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail.
Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and social media platforms.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to undertake physical tasks (e.g., lifting, setting up spaces).
Desirable Qualifications
First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of appointment).
Personal alcohol licence (preferred but not essential).
Experience managing websites or using online booking systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide clear guidance and support to team members and volunteers.
Encourage a collaborative environment with both paid and voluntary staff, aligned around shared community goals.
Problem Solving and Decision Making
Demonstrate creativity and initiative in programming and promotional strategies.
Use sound judgement in managing bookings, including the authority to decline those posing financial or reputational risks.
