About the role

This role has a starting salary of \xc2\xa338,746 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.

Are you passionate about the power of local community? Are you motivated by being alongside people and families, helping them as they achieve their vision of a good life?

We want Surrey to be a place where everyone has a great start to life, people live healthy and fulfilling lives, and can achieve their full potential and contribute to their community. To help us make this a reality in Surrey we have introduced Local Area Coordination as a partnership initiative with the help of the national Local Area Coordination Network.

We are now recruiting for a Local Area Coordinator to work alongside local communities within Stanwell in Spelthorne, a fantastic part of the county.

As the Local Area Coordinator in this area, you will be aiming to:
  • Take introductions from services, organisations, and local people to support people in the local area to stay strong, build their personal capacity and prevent any need for service interventions by building on their strengths and natural support through local relationships,
  • Walk alongside people facing personal crisis, supporting them to achieve person-centred services within the context of a supportive community network around them,
  • Help our public services to learn, understand and transform so they are integrated, person centred, and co-produced with communities.
The Local Area Coordination approach has had a positive impact for communities in other areas of the country and we are excited to see this starting to happen in Surrey too.

The Team

Day to day you will be based in the local community working closely alongside colleagues from Spelthorne Borough Council, other County Council services, NHS partners, and the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector.

From a small initial team of four Local Area Coordinators, we are now looking to expand and introduce the role in more areas of the county so you will be part of a growing team, helping embed and champion this approach. This is part of our wider efforts, as set out in our Surrey and , to support people earlier and more effectively within their homes and local communities.

This role is hosted by Surrey County Council but is being recruited and supported in partnership with Spelthorne Borough Council and other key local partners, with the overall initiative overseen through a Surrey wide partnership group.

Please note: While Surrey County Council\'s main office is in Reigate, this is a community-based role and so you will be working exclusively in the Stanwell area.

To be considered for shortlisting to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
  • Experience of working alongside and supporting a diverse range of people, including those experiencing mental health issues, older people, people with physical disabilities, families, carers, and their local communities
  • Understanding and practical experience of advocacy and supporting people to plan for their future in a strength-based way
  • Ability to work creatively and independently
  • Experience and ability to work with a broad range of professionals within the health and social care sector as well as elected members, community leaders, third sector, voluntary, community and faith sectors as well as other organisations.
For your application you will be asked to provide a CV and answer the following 3 questions:

Q1) What are your key motivations for applying for this role?

Q2) Please share an example of how you have supported an individual to build on their personal strengths and find natural support through local relationships.

Q3) Please share an example where you have worked creatively and independently.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the we follow.
