We are looking for an experienced and ambitious solicitor or legal executive to join our fast paced, rapidly growing and highly regarded Community Care & Welfare team.


Reporting to the Partner and Head of Team, you will manage your own caseload of privately fee-paying clients and play a key role in supervising junior fee earners and contributing to the development of this specialist area of law.

The team specialises in the provision of highly tailored education, health, social care and welfare advice to Court of Protection Deputies, their clients and professionals in respect of children and adults living with a disability, injury or illness.

Experience/ Attributes required

Essential Skills

Solid experience in Community Care/Public Law and/or Court of Protection matters, including overlapping issues relating to Property & Affairs and Health & Welfare. Experience of working with and advising Court of Protection Deputies, their clients and professionals such as case managers. Proven ability to independently manage a complex caseload of privately fee-paying clients, including cases with the need for a multi-pronged approach involving public law and Court of Protection remedies. Strong advocacy, negotiation and communication skills. Excellent client care and organisational abilities. Experience supervising or mentoring junior fee earners and a desire to assist the Head of Team with developing junior fee earners. Confident IT user, including Microsoft Office.

Desirable Skills

Experience in Court of Protection Property & Affairs more widely and/or Special Educational Needs law. Involvement in business development, training delivery or marketing initiatives.

Managing a diverse caseload of Community Care and Court of Protection matters with minimal supervision. Depending on the candidate's experience, there may also be opportunities for work involving Special Educational Needs matters. Supervising and supporting junior fee earners and support staff. Drafting and reviewing complex legal documents and correspondence. Providing advocacy at assessments, appeals and court or tribunal hearings. Developing client relationships and assisting with new business opportunities. Participating in marketing events and contributing to team strategy and growth. Ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance are maintained.

As specialists in Court of Protection, we are well placed to provide statutory funding and welfare advice as part of our all-age service, keeping a careful eye on how the issues in dispute sit within the scope of a Deputy's general authority, pursuant to HHJ Hilder's decisions in Re ACC, Calderdale and Lumb. The team works closely with our highly regarded Special Educational Needs team.
