Job Overview


Our Food Poverty Programme aims to tackle food insecurity by redistributing surplus food, providing community meals, building partnerships that promote dignified food access, reducing waste, and improving health and wellbeing for all. Our vision includes delivering budget cooking classes, weekly provision of 300 home-cooked nutritious meals and distributing near-sell-by foods through partner organisations, to reach the most vulnerable people in our rural community. You will be based at Ayrshire Food Hub and deliver a range of activities promoting food, health, and wellbeing to organisations providing services for people in the towns and villages in the rural area surrounding Crossroads.

You will be responsible for liaising with FareShare and other food businesses to extend our food distribution service, coordinating and increasing collection and distribution of near sell by food, managing our community meals and affordable cookery projects, establishing further local community initiatives, fostering collaboration, encouraging volunteers, and helping reduce food waste while supporting those in need.

Duties



Build new and maintain strong relationships with local food partners and suppliers to increase surplus food donations. Recruit, train, and support volunteers, ensuring they feel valued, motivated, and confident in their roles. Ensure food hygiene, health and safety and recording procedures are followed at all times. Engage with the local community to increase awareness of the project and build new partnerships with relevant local groups. Analyse and evaluate all community work communicating plans and outcomes to the Board of Trustees. Provide regular written reports on grant expenditure and outcomes. Support the ongoing development of the project, including identifying opportunities for sustainability, collaboration, and growth. Actively work with the Board to secure external funding. Contribute to the ongoing development of Crossroads Community Hub's initiatives, supporting collaboration across the charity's food, garden, and wellbeing projects. Coordinate the operation of our community food distribution including managing stock, food collections, volunteer rotas and liaison with FareShare. Working with food workers and volunteers to organise and deliver cookery classes, in low cost meal preparation.

Qualifications



Friendly, approachable and enjoys working with people. Experience supervising volunteers or coordinating small teams. REHIS/equivalent certificate in elementary food hygiene . Experience of community engagement and consultation. Awareness of environmental sustainability and food waste reduction. Excellent record keeping and report writing skills. Effective project management, administration and IT skills. Ability to work unsupervised, meet deadlines, prioritise and problem solve. Able to work flexible hours in line with the requirements of the service. Clean driving licence. Reliable, well organised and able to manage day?to?day tasks independently. Experience of work with local authority and third sector organisations.
