How we operate



OCL is overseen by 5 trustees who have overall responsibility for the CIO governed by OCL's constitution. The trustees live in Teesside, identify as Black and Asian females with lived experience of asylum/migrant processes, racism, discrimination, and poverty.

The trustees support the organisation manager, who is responsible for daily centre management, accounting , safeguarding, supervising staff, volunteers, and activities including risk assessments.

The development manager supports the organisation manager and wider organisation with funding applications, budget management, accounting, safeguarding, training, reporting, partnership development and joint working opportunities.

The project coordinator leads weekly activities with responsibility for safeguarding, planning, and delivery including risk assessments; and supporting sessional staff and volunteers in their roles.

Job Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Community Development Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting individuals and developing the Charity. This position requires a proactive approach, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders through effective communication and social media management.

Responsibilities



Provide direct support to individuals in the community

To support and develop weekly activities for the local community, including evenings and weekends

Support managerial staff with delivery including safeguarding, risk assessments, registration of participants and evaluations.

To promote high standards of community care and development

To assist the managerial team to deliver high quality activities

To be an advocate for people in poverty and people who have experienced racism.

To represent anti-racist values and develop anti-racist thinking and practice

Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress, ensuring confidentiality at all times.

Collaborate with local organisations and agencies to strengthen community ties and service delivery.

Qualifications



Proven experience in community development or a related field is preferred.

Understanding of importance of working with migrant communities and people living in poverty.

Understanding of racism and anti-racism.

Experience of working with people where English is their second language.

Understanding of systems of power and oppression and the impact on Black, Asian, and Global Majority communities.

Lived experience

Awareness of how the world is changing politically, economically, and socially; and understanding of how this impacts local communities.

We are looking for candidates with skills and experience in any one of the following areas:

Supporting Black, Asian and Global Majority communities Anti-racism concepts and ideologies Community projects that focus on particular areas e.g. employability skills, health and well-being, cookery, jewellery design, sports, therapy, immigration law etc Marketing, PR, and communications Strong administrative skills, including proficiency in maintaining documentation and reporting systems. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility in various situations.

Pay: 13.00 per hour
