About us

Bristol Community Sauna is a community-led, all-electric sauna and cold baths set within the urban green space behind the St Anne's House community hub.

We're a year into opening, with operations now stable, and we are now recruiting a Community Manager to expand equitable access to our sauna through the development of actively inclusive programmes and partnerships that reach people who are currently excluded or underrepresented in wellness spaces.

About the Role

Our Community Manager will set up systems and processes that support care for our community across the whole member journey, from first hearing about BCS to regularly attending sauna sessions.

In this role, you will:

Create partnerships with community organisations and social prescribers, and build referral pathways to our services Co-design inclusive programmes and events that welcome underrepresented communities Manage internal and external communications to support community growth Develop accessible systems and processes that enable us to measure and expand our impact
You will be the first person employed in a community and communications role at BCS. You'll have scope to shape how we listen, co-produce, and remove barriers to access. The systems you develop will feed into our social impact monitoring, allowing us to further expand our offering.

Who You Are

Our ideal candidate is a motivated and autonomous community practitioner who can turn listening into practical, inclusive programmes with measurable outcomes. You're skilled at prioritising competing demands and managing your workload effectively within part-time hours. You've helped organisations improve equity of access through policies, pricing or programme design, and you're comfortable building trust with diverse partners.

You're organised, reflective, and collaborative, with strong interpersonal skills that help you build authentic relationships across diverse communities. You're attuned to safeguarding and trauma-informed practice. Above all, you're motivated by our mission and the equitable sauna culture we're growing.

Key Responsibilities

Primary focus areas

Community Development & Programmes

Collaborate with our team, members, and partners to design and deliver events and regular sessions that welcome communities currently underrepresented at BCS. Create a clear and fair pathway for people who get in touch with ideas for sessions, supporting them from proposal to delivery in a way that balances new initiatives with the needs of our existing community. Write and manage partnership agreements with community organisations and local partners. Co-produce programmes with other St Anne's House tenants to make the most of our unique setting.
Social Prescribing & Referral Pathways

Develop relationships with social prescribers, healthcare providers, and community partners. Build and manage referral pathways with social prescribers; provide clear service information, eligibility, and onboarding guidance. Create practical partner tools and a system for consistent delivery of our social prescribing service.
Communications & Marketing

Balance internal and external communications: nurture and inform existing members through clear email and newsletter communications, and grow our reach externally via social media, advertising, and targeted outreach to underrepresented groups. Lead our external communications calendar and tone of voice across website, social media, email and press releases, either through the development of a communications strategy or in coordination with external marketing professionals. Produce clear, accessible content (copy, imagery, short video) and ensure brand consistency. Manage mailing lists and segmentation; send regular newsletters and service updates. Respond to sensitive customer emails that have been escalated by Sauna Hosts checking our shared inbox.

Secondary focus areas

Measurement & impact

Design all systems and workflows so they easily feed into organisational social impact monitoring, including referral outcomes, reach, engagement, attendance, and simple wellbeing measures. Track engagement metrics and report insights to improve reach and conversion.
Governance & Data

Ensure accessible communications practice and consent/imagery guidelines are followed. Comply with data protection; steward member/community data responsibly. Coordinate media assets and respond to press enquiries, in line with strategy and approvals.
Financial

Manage your programme budget; track costs and outcomes and report learning and recommendations to directors. Propose and test financial models that reduce barriers such as concessions, subsidised or free sessions, and private hires. Support funding applications and grant writing to expand accessible programming.
