Job Description

Lead and co-ordinate the clinical activities of the midwifery team in their area particularly in line with Government initiatives and Trust Strategy. Participate in and contribute to recruitment, selection and retention of staff within the department. Influence and empower through motivating and supporting staff. Will be responsible for the appropriate deployment of staff and effective time management including working as manager on-call/bleep holder In the event of short notice sickness/absence etc, will ensure that appropriate measures are taken to ensure the shifts are covered as required.



Will review clinical incidences and initiate action to minimise risks within the service. Will participate in the preparation of orientation programmes and supervise/support new staff. Responsible for monitoring and control of sickness absence within their team and taking appropriate action to minimise same. Responsible for the performance management of individual team members Responsible for safe maintenance and storage of equipment, ensuring all team members can use the equipment safely and effectively.



Foster a proactive approach to handling conflict, grievances and complaints. Will anticipate and manage complaints as they arise and take action to prevent recurrence. Work in partnership with Midwifery Leadership team on professional and organisational issues and lead in the implementation of new practices as required. Liaise with IT lead midwife to fully utilise electronic patient record for maternity.



Support the development of Antenatal Education Be part of the community on-call rota as part of the maternity escalation policy.
