Job Summary
The role involves delivering specialised, patient-centred care for individuals with stomas or fistulae, advocating for their needs and supporting informed decision-making. You will collaborate closely with hospital and community teams to ensure seamless, high-quality care while maintaining accurate clinical records. As a clinical resource, you will build strong relationships within the multidisciplinary team and contribute to ongoing research, audits, and service improvements.
You will provide leadership in stoma care services, support staff education and training, and uphold professional standards and governance. The role requires a commitment to continuous professional development, cost-effective resource management, and adherence to data protection and equality policies.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care for patients with stomas or fistulae, acting as their advocate and providing clear information to support informed decisions.
Collaborate with hospital staff and community teams to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional standards.
Build effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, acting as a clinical resource for nursing staff and carers involved in stoma, fistula, and colorectal care.
Keep up to date with current research, clinical developments, and best practices in colorectal and stoma care.
Identify personal development needs and set learning goals with your manager.
Uphold the NMC Code of Conduct, working autonomously and within your professional scope of practice.
Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and clinical governance standards.
Participate in research, audits, and service evaluations to support continuous improvement.
Provide leadership within the stoma care service, supporting the development and delivery of service objectives.
Contribute to the design and delivery of education and training for nursing and multidisciplinary staff.
Maintain statutory training compliance and promote a safe clinical environment.
Support effective resource management by being cost-aware and working within budgetary constraints.
Understand and align with wider business and organisational objectives.
Ensure compliance with data protection and maintain patient confidentiality.
Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the role.
Personal Specification:
Registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and proven post-registration experience, preferably in stoma or colorectal nursing.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of healthcare service operations in a commercial context.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with patients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of patients and the service.
Ability to plan, manage, and prioritise workload effectively, working both independently and as part of a team.
Dynamic, forward-thinking, and proactive with a clear commitment to professional development in stoma and colorectal nursing.
Skilled in data analysis and interpretation, able to develop actionable plans, reports, and advice based on findings.
Confident in presenting a professional and positive image of yourself and the company, with strong influencing skills to engage stakeholders and drive improvements.
Proficient in IT systems, including Microsoft Excel.
Holds a full and valid UK driving licence to support any travel requirements of the role.
