Summary



We are seeking 3 Project Workers to join our passionate team at Our Place Support.

The Connected Communities Project is a new citywide initiative in Birmingham that aims to improve access to and inclusion in community activities for adults from Deaf BSL communities, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, and LGBTQ+ communities. Using an asset-based community development approach, the project will engage with individuals and groups in familiar, trusted spaces to understand their needs, reduce barriers to participation, and empower them to shape and sustain their own community-led provision.

This project is funded through the Heart of England Community Foundation as part of the Birmingham Neighbourhood Network Scheme.

Purpose of the Role



As a Project Worker focused on Asset Based Community Development & Engagement, you will support community assets, build the capacity of local communities, and provide targeted engagement activities to ensure that the voices and needs of identified communities help to shape the Connected Communities initiative.

Key Roles and Responsibilities



Work collaboratively with colleagues across the project. Attend regular one to one and team meetings.

Asset Based Community Development & Capacity Building

Review and update citywide consultation and data to identify gaps/barriers to accessing activities for marginalised communities. Conduct capacity audits to identify skill gaps and resource needs of citizen-led groups. Identify and coordinate access to training/workshops for individuals and community organisations as appropriate Support organisations, volunteers and emerging community leaders to build effective accessible and sustainable provision. Develop or link organisations/individuals to toolkits, guidance materials, and templates for ongoing use by community groups.

Community Engagement (Supporting Role)

Reach out to target groups--identifying venues, events, and networks for engagement. Co-facilitate listening sessions and focus groups; accurately capture and share community feedback. Support citizens to become community leaders, meeting identified gaps in activities.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

Contribute data and qualitative feedback from both capacity-building and engagement activities. Provide regular summaries and insights to the Project Coordinator for inclusion in progress reports. Support evaluation by documenting outcomes, lessons learned, and best practices.

Partnership Working

Build on our strong partner agency approach to network and collaborate with community organisations, local authorities and community representatives in relation to the Connected Communities project.

: Ensure the safety of citizens and team members by adhering to safeguarding policies, process and legislation.

Collaborative Work

: Regularly collaborate with colleagues across the organisation.

: Follow all Our Place Support policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience



Essential



18 Years and above.

Pass qualification in English and Numeracy.

Good knowledge or qualification in IT including Excel, Word and email.

Experience working directly with communities, especially those considered hard-to-reach.

Ability to build trust and engage people in informal and diverse community settings.

A commitment to inclusive, person-centred approaches.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Experience in capturing feedback and contributing to project reporting.

Ability to support peers in a team environment.

Excellent communication skills.

Excellent organisation skills.

Excellent time management skills.

Desirable



Lived experience of Deaf BSL, Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, or LGBTQ+ communities or substantial experience working with these communities.

Knowledge of asset-based community development principles.

Experience supporting individuals or groups to develop community-led activities.

Familiarity with safeguarding practices and procedures.

Ability to speak a community language (including BSL) is an advantage.
