Community Services Supervisor Libraries

Somerset, United Kingdom

Job Description

Are you able to supervise and lead a team, work well with volunteers, colleagues and partners and provide excellent customer service? Do you embrace change and have a calm can-do attitude?

We are looking for a well organised, enthusiastic and proactive supervisor with excellent time-management and communication skills, who can support and develop team members, and who enjoys working with people of all ages from the whole community.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of 3 branch libraries; Winscombe Library, The Healthy Living Centre Library and Worle Library. You will lead a large team of Community Services officers and volunteers in the library operating 6 days a week. This includes organising holiday activities, regular Rhymetimes, Lego Club and digital support sessions, as well as hosting literary and community events. You will also be responsible for managing and promoting extended access (customer access during non-staffed times) at Worle and Winscombe libraries.

You will work closely with colleagues in these buildings, particularly those working in the Children\'s Centre at Worle library and partners working in the multipurpose site at The For All Healthy Living Centre.

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in library services who can enable the library\'s contribution to health and wellbeing, education, culture, and support for employment and skills. You will have supervisory and customer service experience: Library experience, although desirable, is not essential.

Your role will include training and coaching, you will be responsible for managing staff\'s performance, creating timesheets, managing staff holiday and sickness absence and general welfare. You will work with external partners, organising events compliant with Health and Safety guidelines. You will be responsible for banking, recruitment, and chairing meetings. Previous IT experience is essential as you will be working with spreadsheets and troubleshooting staff and customer IT queries daily.

We are looking for a confident person with integrity, a strong work ethic-someone who enjoys a challenge and is a natural leader (reporting to a professional librarian), and a team player who is mutually supported by Supervisors at our other sites.

You will be required to work across the 3 branch libraries and may be asked to work at other libraries across the district and visit a variety of venues. The post is for 24 hours a week, including alternate Saturdays. This is a fixed term role for 12 months or until the return of the postholder.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
