Hours

: 21 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible working considered)

Rate

: 23,836.18 (pro rata) Actual salary: 14,301.70

At Disability North, we are looking for a Community Welfare Advisor to join our Advice Team, someone who believes that lived experience is powerful, who listens without judgement, and who is committed to making systems work better for the people they were built to serve.

What you'll do



You'll be a key contact for disabled people and their families, offering support that is person-centred, practical, and rights-based.
Your work will include:

Providing advice on social care, health systems, and welfare benefits. Supporting people to challenge unfair decisions and appeal care charges or benefit rejections. Provide face to face and telephone advice and information, assist with the completion of benefit application forms and represent at tribunals. Signposting to other advice organisations Working collaboratively with partners and professionals to make real change.

What you'll bring



We're looking for someone with:

Experience (formal or lived) of social care or welfare benefits systems. Strong communication skills - compassionate, clear and collaborative Able to take information given by individuals and transfer it onto forms, some are online and some are paper based. An understanding of the Care Act 2014 and a commitment to the social model of disability. Excellent organisation, IT and time management skills. A team spirit, a proactive approach and alignment with our organisational values.
