Job Description

Compassionate Community Builders

22.5 hours per week (Flexible hours)

Fixed term 2 years from September 2025

Salary: Band 4 29,116 - 31,670 per annum, pro rata

Reference Number: 2507712

Strathcarron Hospice is actively supporting the development of 'Compassionate Communities' which enable local neighbourhoods to support and care for their own in times of illness, death and grief.

With support from the National Lottery Community Fund and Strathcarron Hospice, we have an exciting opportunity to appoint a team of 4 Community Builders to work at a neighbourhood level in specific communities within Forth Valley and part of North Lanarkshire. The team will offer dedicated support to communities in Slammanan, Bainsford and Langlees and the Cumbernauld/Croy/Kilsyth area as well as the wider communities of Forth Valley.

Working alongside key partners i.e. existing services, third sector organisations, community groups and individuals, and using an Asset Based Community Development approach, you will support the building of connected and caring communities that enable people with deteriorating health and their carers to live well right up to the end of life.

We are looking for a mix of skills but would expect you to have an understanding of the power of 'connection' in community settings as well as an interest in community development. You will possess empathy and good social skills. You will be patient and reflective, acknowledging that change happens within communities at the speed of trust. These attributes will enable you to grow community capacity, weave relationships and help local people create positive change and build a compassionate community.

In addition, we will be looking for experience of event delivery and also exploring your understanding and experience of monitoring and evaluating community activity. We want to know what you might bring to the team in terms of the above.

You must be educated to HNC level or above in a relevant field and ideally have a track record of successful asset based community development work.

This role necessitates flexible working (day/ evening/ weekends) and some level of travel. A driving licence is essential.

The post holder will be subject to a check by Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme

The posts are funded, in the main, by a grant from National Lottery Community Fund. The North Lanarkshire role is funded by the Hospice.
