We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and reliable Care Assistant to support a bright and energetic young boy who has a tracheostomy and ventilator. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in his daily life by providing 1:1 care in both home and school settings. You will be an essential part of his support team, helping him safely access education, enjoy activities, and live life to the fullest.
Your role will involve not only providing high-quality clinical care but also building a trusting, supportive relationship with him and his family.
Key Responsibilities:
Accompany the child to school, supporting his participation in class and helping him engage with peers and teachers safely.
Assist with daily routines such as personal care, feeding, and dressing, always respecting his dignity
Monitor respiratory status and equipment, responding promptly and appropriately to any changes or alarms.
Administer prescribed medication and keep detailed, accurate records of care and any observations.
Work closely with the child's family, school staff, and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and consistency in care.
Prepare meals/snacks as needed, with awareness of dietary needs and preferences.
Create a nurturing, fun, and stimulating environment where the child feels safe, included, and supported.
Skills and Requirements:
Over 12 months previous care experience in the UK
Clear and confident communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Experience in paediatric care, particularly tracheostomy and/or ventilator care, is highly desirable (training can be provided for the right candidate).
Ability to follow and contribute to a person-centred care plan.
Empathy, warmth, and a playful, child-friendly approach are essential.
Confidence to work independently and remain calm in emergency situations.
Basic IT skills for documentation and communication.
