Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented
Compliance Manager
to lead, oversee, and enhance the firm's regulatory and risk management framework. The ideal candidate will ensure the firm's ongoing compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations, GDPR requirements, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules, and other relevant legal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure full compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations, Legal Services Act 2007, and other relevant legal frameworks.
Monitor regulatory developments and advise management on necessary changes to policies and procedures.
Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Risk Management
Act as the
Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)
or support the MLRO as required.
Maintain and review the firm's AML policies, procedures, and controls.
Monitor client onboarding processes, perform file reviews, and ensure appropriate due diligence and risk assessments are carried out.
Data Protection & GDPR Compliance
Oversee data protection compliance, ensuring policies and practices meet UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 standards.
Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and report breaches in line with ICO guidance.
Policy Development & Training
Draft, maintain, and update internal compliance policies and manuals (e.g. Client Money Policy, Data Protection, Cybersecurity, Equality & Diversity).
Design and deliver staff training on compliance, confidentiality, AML, data security, and professional ethics.
Ensure all staff complete required compliance certifications and training.
Complaints & Breach Management
Handle complaints handling procedures and maintain breach and incident registers.
Investigate compliance breaches and escalate significant issues to senior management and regulators as necessary.
Liaison with Regulators
Act as the point of contact for the SRA, ICO, and other regulatory bodies.
Prepare for and manage regulatory inspections or investigations.
Requirements
Essential:
Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a compliance role within a law firm or legal services environment.
In-depth knowledge of SRA Standards & Regulations, AML regulations, and UK GDPR.
Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
Ability to influence at all levels and provide confident advice to partners and senior stakeholders.

Pay: 28,000.00-45,000.00 per year
