The role:



Working within the firms small and creative compliance team, the successful candidate would be expected to promote the importance of compliance requirements across the firm and help support the best practice throughout all the departments. There could be an opportunity for the role to expand to full responsibility over time with the support of the partners, the managing partner, and Head of Departments.

The compliance officer will have a key role in creating and/or amending current procedures, processes and controls which are workable and efficient. Where required, they would ensure that all breaches, issues, and concerns are escalated to the correct person, giving recommendations and a proactive approach to problem solving would be essential.

Duties will also include but not limited to drafting and updating various template letters, carrying out compliance checks on procedures, and creating training programmes to deliver to all staff. The firms risk review takes place annually, and candidates would need to demonstrate an understanding of potential risks for the firm, money laundering issues, conflict issues along with general enquiries. The compliance officer should be able to provide recommendations on these concerns when required.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the accreditation team ensuring that the preparation, completed data, record keeping, and schedules are all in place for any audit such as LEXCEL, SRA and CQS.

As part of the firms developing supervision process, there would be a requirement for the successful candidate to monitor supervisory meetings, file reviews and mentor our supervisors.

Candidates should have initiative and motivation to improve how the firm's compliance is achieved; therefore, there should be an understanding of and a drive to keep up to date with all regulatory requirements in a law firm.

The candidate:



The successful candidate should have experience in Legal compliance / risk / regulatory work, with a good working knowledge of AML legislation and the SRA codes of conduct.

Excellent communication skills will be required in the role of Compliance Officer. They will be responsible for ensuring clear and precise instructions and information is passed on to all staff. It will be important to be able to maintain relationships with and be able to advise the management team.

There will be an expectation for the candidate to be able to present themselves to groups of Lawyers or the Management team with updates, plans for process changes or further firm requirements for implementations. The candidate should be personable, understanding of Lawyers and the role / deadlines and pressure they face and be supportive while achieving compliance obligations.

Being able to work to a deadline will be essential, along with the capability of being flexible when projects change.

Strong IT skills are an advantage, experience of a legal setting and the compliance required in a professional setting will be fundamental.

There will be a requirement to attend all sites, a driver's licence and access to a vehicle will be essential.
