Main Purpose of the Role
To support the Facilities & Operations Manager in ensuring statutory compliance, health and safety, and risk management across the site. The postholder will review, implement, and monitor key safety procedures and lead compliance audits for the estate. The is a discreet, 12-month, project to address an urgent backlog of work.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Organising
Coordinate statutory inspections and compliance across the estate, including fire safety, water hygiene, electrical testing, control of contractors, and asbestos monitoring.
Plan and review emergency preparedness procedures, ensuring up-to-date disaster recovery and evacuation plans.
Organise and maintain accurate compliance records, training logs, and incident reports.
Support continuous improvement by reviewing and updating procedures in line with legislation and best practice.
Service Delivery and Customer Experience
Ensure all buildings and grounds provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers.
Support colleagues in understanding and delivering health and safety responsibilities through clear guidance and communication.
Act promptly to resolve issues raised by inspections, audits, or user feedback, supporting a positive visitor experience.
Stakeholder Relationships and Influence
Establish and lead a small facilities volunteer network to supplement compliance checks and audits.
Work collaboratively with the Facilities & Operations Manager, Executive Team, and external contractors to ensure compliance.
Liaise with local authorities and emergency services, including the Fire Department, to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
Communicate confidently and clearly with all internal teams, including Creative, Commercial, Visitor Experience, and Finance.
Autonomy and Accountability
Take ownership of compliance monitoring, escalating risks or gaps where necessary.
Provide expert advice on health and safety policies and statutory obligations across departments.
Support colleagues to deliver operational compliance and promote shared accountability for health, safety, and sustainability.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Monitor and implement Compton Verney's Health and Safety Policy, ensuring legal compliance across departments.
Carry out regular site audits and inspections, including contractor controls and event risk assessments.
Support a positive culture of wellbeing and safety for all staff, volunteers, and visitors through proactive training and guidance.
Review and approve inter-departmental risk assessments, including those related to collections and public programmes.
Data, Systems & Reporting
Manage digital systems for compliance documentation, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Prepare reports and statistics for the Health and Safety Committee and Executive Team.
Track contractor performance and statutory service levels using compliance software or reporting tools.
Sustainability & Environmental Responsibility
Ensure maintenance activities contribute to Compton Verney's environmental goals by promoting energy-efficient systems and sustainable practices.
Support waste reduction and responsible contractor procurement in line with environmental commitments.
Safeguarding
Support a safe environment for all visitors, particularly children and adults at risk, by applying safeguarding principles in facilities operations.
Participate in relevant safeguarding training and reporting in accordance with Compton Verney's Safeguarding Policy.
Other Duties
Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support Compton Verney's objectives.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:
Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices
Strong background in facilities, compliance or health and safety management
Track record of successful contract and statutory compliance oversight
Experience in multi-stakeholder environments
