The Royal Institute of International Affairs is an independent policy institute based in London. Our mission is to help improve international relations in pursuit of a secure, prosperous, sustainable and just world. We do this through original research and by convening discussion, helped by our core teams and our global network of fellows. We are looking for a talented fundraiser and content developer with a curious mind who thrives within a successful, fast-paced, and friendly team!


You will take ownership of content development and fundraising for allocated events within our evolving commercial convening portfolio, including sponsored panels, roundtables, and event series, alongside specialist conferences. Key aspects of this role include sponsorship prospecting, writing compelling agendas and event copy, stakeholder management of key event partners, and collaboration with research and operations colleagues across the Institute to convene impactful events with the most influential policy and business leaders from around the globe.


As a valued team member within the Corporate Fundraising team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the annual portfolio of Chatham House's commercial convening and enjoy unique access to insights from world leaders, policymakers, and business leaders who regularly speak and participate at our events. The successful candidate will be a highly organised, self-starter who enjoys seeking out and developing commercial partnership opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy - Content Development and Fundraising

You will develop sponsored bespoke events, including panels, roundtables, dinners, and specialist conferences relating to contemporary issues in international affairs. Expand our engagement with external partners and sponsors to raise the profile of Chatham House while stewarding key stakeholders through collaboration on bespoke events and specialist conferences. Facilitate and nurture partnerships in the long term to increase sponsorship and upsell across our entire product offering. Utilise Chatham House's extensive research outputs to keep up to date on current issues and developments. Work alongside in-house research colleagues to develop content related to ongoing and emerging areas of research. Identify influential and high-profile speakers and contributors and bring together communities of policymakers, the private sector, academia, NGOs, and civil society organizations. Contribute to the corporate fundraising team's wider revenue target while taking responsibility for your own income targets. Contribute to the delivery of Chatham House's EDI strategy.

Work with colleagues at Chatham House to evaluate opportunities for cross-collaboration and cross-selling. Work with research teams to transform international affairs-based content into commercially viable events. Build relationships and collaborate with external organizations and partners to secure sponsorship and develop events that align with their business objectives.

Delivery

Identify and engage sponsors and commercial partners to secure funding support for the development and delivery of a diverse bespoke event portfolio. Write clear, concise, and topical agendas and event copy, developing engaging sessions and event formats (virtual, in-person, and hybrid environments). Research key speakers to be invited to each event and identify fresh voices and perspectives. Work with the sales and marketing team to create persuasive copy for marketing channels to reach target audiences. Identify opportunities for cross-collaboration across fundraising teams and upsell existing supporters and members. Manage a diverse array of bespoke events and conferences relating to international affairs issues.

Experience

This role may suit a candidate with previous experience in:

Content development for high-level, commercially successful events (in-person, hybrid, or virtual environments). Fundraising and business development, client management, and engaging external partners and stakeholders with a keen commercial awareness. A similar role where you have demonstrated related skills.

Essential Skills

Commercially minded with a strong business development acumen. An ability to engage and build rapport quickly with partners. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. A willingness to contribute to collective objectives and work across teams at all levels. A proactive individual, displaying tact, sensitivity, and diplomacy at all times as well as discretion in handling sensitive information. A flair for writing creative and compelling content with a desire to work across a broad range of key issues. A keen eye for spotting new trends and topical content for event programmes. An ability to remain calm under pressure and balance multiple projects and events simultaneously with ease.

Desirable

Experience of working in a think-tank, policy institute, or NGO.

Salary:

35,000 per year.

Contract:

Full-time, Permanent

Location:

St James's Square, London. This is a hybrid role based in our London office. The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite at least 2 days per week.
