Job Summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced, positive and reliable carpenter to join our small team. We work with UK hardwoods, usually with timber in the round or prepared with our own mobile sawmill, and make natural playgrounds and equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various carpentry techniques, ideally including green woodwork, and be proficient in using both hand and power tools. Experience with chainsaws would be desirable.

Our yard and workshop is based rurally in South Herefordshire. The role may involve occasional work across the UK helping to install natural playgrounds.

The Construction Carpenter / Timber Playground Installer will be working as part of a small team and must be confident to work independently as needed. Your work will be required to be completed professionally, efficiently and to a high standard.

This role involves constructing natural play equipment and working on natural playground projects for children, including constructions in educational and leisure settings. Attention to detail and craftsmanship are paramount.

Duties

Reading design drawings, selecting raw timber, measuring and cutting timber lengths Work with the natural shape of the timber to construct and join, sand and oil timbers in the round Perform joinery tasks, ensuring precision in assembly and finishing. Carefully following play safety guidance and health and safety procedures (training provided) Working at pace as part of a team to ensure orders are completed on time General landscaping and ground works as needed Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Skills

Proficient in using power tools such as saws, drills, and sanders. Skilled with hand tools including chisels, hammers, and measuring devices. Excellent problem-solving abilities to address construction challenges effectively. Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials as required.

We will require a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
