About the role
Balfour Beatty is looking to make a critical leadership hire and appoint a Construction Director for the Net Zero Teesside project - the world's first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage.
This is a high-impact role providing strategic direction and leadership for a large complex project ensuring they align with the company's goals, budget, and timelines.
As Construction Director, you will establish programme deliverables, manage resources effectively, and foster relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. You will also be responsible for managing risks and ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
You will lead a team of Senior Project Managers across key disciplines including piling, earthworks, HV systems, foundations, and buildings.
What you'll be doing

  • Providing strategic direction and leadership for project teams.
  • Leading, developing, and retaining multidisciplinary teams, fostering an inclusive and positive work environment.
  • Building and managing strong relationships with clients, contractors, supply chain partners, local authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are met, with a relentless focus on Zero Harm and "Right First Time" values.
  • Overseeing project delivery, including programme management, resource allocation, logistics, and risk management.
  • Championing innovation, continuous improvement, and the use of modern construction methods and digital tools (such as BIM).
  • Managing commercial aspects, including contracts (NEC), procurement, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Supporting team development, coaching and mentoring colleagues, and promoting professional growth.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations, industry standards, and sustainability targets.
  • Leading on quality assurance, technical standards, and integration of design and construction management.
Who we're looking for
  • An experienced leader with a proven track record in construction management, especially in leading and developing large, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, able to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of partners and clients.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, with the ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and solutions-focused culture.
  • Deep knowledge of civil engineering, construction processes, and project management best practices.
  • Commercially astute, with experience in contract negotiation, procurement, and financial management.
  • Skilled in risk management, quality assurance, and the implementation of safety and sustainability initiatives.
  • Proficient in digital construction tools and modern methods of construction.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to thrive under pressure.
  • Committed to personal and team development, with a coaching and mentoring approach.
