Construction Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Adelaide Street, Belfast
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm) with 30min lunch.
Salary: 18.72 per hour
Contract: Temporary
About the Role:
We are recruiting a Construction Health & Safety Advisor to join the Health & Safety Services team at the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
This is a key role providing professional advice, support and guidance to managers, staff and contractors to ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, policies and best practice across construction-related activities.
You will work as part of the Construction Health & Safety team, carrying out inspections, developing policies, delivering training, and supporting safe project delivery across NIHE's construction and maintenance schemes.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a Competent Person under Health & Safety regulations for construction-related activity.
  • Develop, implement and review construction Health & Safety policies, procedures, and guidance.
  • Carry out site inspections, issue corrective action plans, and promote safe working practices.
  • Stop unsafe work where there is imminent risk to staff, contractors, or the public.
  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to Project Managers, Principal Designers and contractors under CDM (NI) 2016.
  • Deliver Health & Safety training to staff and contractors.
  • Collate and review Pre-Construction Information, Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Attend and contribute to Pre-Start, Risk Reduction and Health & Safety meetings.
  • Deputise for the Health & Safety Manager (Construction) when required.
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
  • Degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in Occupational Health & Safety plus 2 years' experience in a Construction H&S role,
OR currently completing Level 6 in Occupational H&S plus 3 years' experience. * Membership of IOSH (Technical or Certified level).
  • Current CSR Card (with expectation to obtain Gold Health & Safety Practitioner CSR Card on renewal).
  • Experience in:
  • Site inspections and reporting.
  • Reviewing Construction Phase Plans, RAs, MS/SSOW.
  • Developing and delivering training.
  • Writing and implementing H&S policies and procedures.
  • Strong planning, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Full driving licence or access to suitable transport.
Desirable:
  • Experience in a large, complex, multi-site organisation.
